Saturday, March 6, 2010 - I'll add to the building discussion about this wine. I opened this last night, no decant, and had a glass with dinner. Seemed pretty tight and didn't give up much. Recorked the wine, put back in cellar. Tonight, trying again with no decant. The aromatics are sharp, a mixture for me of underbrush and some alcohol, with some flowers hidden beneath. The palate shows a raspberry liqueur, blackberry and a chocolate shake type of feel through the oak that is showing. As it sits in the glass, no doubt, there is a deep core of red and black jammy fruit in the center of it. For me, at this stage, this wine is still quite primary and too young to drink. So, where does the wine head? I think that will tell the true story, as I think it will need another 12-18 months to settle in and then hold itself up to evaluation.

While it may turn out great, I have had other wines that tasted similar and didn't receive anywhere close the same lofty professional scores, making me think that maybe I just can't see potential the way some can.
