Saturday, February 6, 2021 - Left open for 30 minutes, then drunk with a Santa Maria tri-tip and roasted vegetables. Nose of cassis, blackberry, cedar, with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon in the background. Palate follows the nose, the fruit a little cooked now 15 years in. Tannins pretty much gone, fruit fading but still there, so fruit wins, hurray! Stays on the palate forever - the word "finish" doesn't really apply. Take a sip, suck a little air and you will be tasting this wine until you put something else in your mouth. I could maybe fault it for being a bit less complex than some cabs in its class, but that seems ungenerous. It's really spectacular, and I'm sorry I didn't wait six more months to share it with a larger group of friends, post-Covid. Not collapsing, but won't get better, I would say drink over the next year unless you have a case...
