90 Points

Monday, August 18, 2014 - Aromas are nice, showing plenty of sweet lemon, unripe melon rind, and some sweet canned pumpkin meat. Fairly luscious and creamy aromas. Palate is very smooth and round, offering nice light minerality and light acid, flavors are turning towards some aged lemon, funky melon, and some quartzy minerality that develops as its held on the tongue. There is a slight funky metallic notion, but the longer it's held in the mouth the more the acidity and minerality dial up and become the dominant play. Finish attacks with acidity, but texturally it's quite round and smooth here too. This juxtaposition is nice, as the mouth feels smooth and round, but the flavors lingering are quite sharp. All told the wine is nice, but at the same time there seems to be a level of overall excitement that is lacking. I was intending on aging these for some more time, but I'm not sure they'll develop positively from here. Overall things are drinking fairly well today, and I'm not quite feeling the structure to leave these as long term agers. Clearly there is some bottle variation or premature oxidation going on with some of these because the low scoring notes below certainly don't describe what's in this bottle. Hopefully I have more positive bottles in the future.
