Wednesday, July 20, 2011 - Popped and poured. Light, pale yellow/straw hue. Forward aromas of yellow grapefruit, lemon zest, stone fruits, fresh cut grass, minerals, a touch of oak and perhaps even an additional subtle hint of fresh jalapeno. Light body...plush and deceiving, but light overall. On the palate, this Sauvignon Blanc really epitomizes what Napa should do with this varietal. It possesses a new world fruit profile that captures both the citrus and tropical aspects yet also shows an impression of minerals that is heightened through the moderate-plus level of acidity while also showing a touch of complexity through herbaceous notes that evoke mild, sweet basil (fresh, of course). Spice from oak is certainly noticeable yet plays understudy to the fruit (as it should). Too easy to drink on a hot day, this is in no danger of falling off and actually comes off as quite youthful, much more so than expected. However, still probably best to drink this outstanding bottle now and through the next 2-3 years. Nice juice.

Quick commentary: Have to mention again how much I like bottle for this wine...strikingly understated and elegant.
