We have never developed a liking to Sauvignon Blanc due to its inherently green nature, however this SB was enjoyed for it's white citrus & tropical fruit character with bright acidity. We didn't get the grass others have noted, which is more than fine with us.

PnP, very nice and fresh, energetic citrus fruit, even after 4 years. Lovely verve on the palate, chalk and grass on the medium length finish. This is a delicious summer wine, drink up now, or will last another year at least.

As before: refreshing: relatively light in body, an effective balance of floral notes and tropical fruits. Versatile, and thus a fine white wine to cook with, and I mean that as a compliment (I tend to be a little more particular about the quality of wine I use for cooking that that which I pour). It does seem pricey at $30, though. And in returning to the bottle to have with a meal, I noticed that it was slightly corked, so: Flaw, no score.

Medium yellow color. Tropical fruit still dominates the nose and palate of this wine. Some citrus notes come through on the palate as well but the acid seems to be fading a little. This wine is still a treat for the palate with great texture and body but if you have any left, it is time to drink up.

Fare thee well, $30 Larkmead Sauv Blanc. I've enjoyed many bottles of you. Now we move on to the $55 Lillie version for 2010, which makes it slightly more indulgent and not a wine that I would use to turn folks on to what Larkmead can do, given the price point for entry. sigh.

Last bottle. PNP. Medium yellow in color - has darkened over the last few months. Still full of delightful aromas of grass and citrus. Pear, apple and citrus on the palate with, as everyone else has noted, a acidic finish that keeps it from being too sweet. Very nice and a shame Larkmead doesn't make more. If scoring 90-91.

PnP. Medium yellow in color, 14.1% abv. Nose of grass, lemon zest, and tart green apple. This is a stunning, electric wine on the palate, painting your mouth with green apple and lemon/lime fruit, seemingly drizzled with honey. Just then, an acid-machete cuts thru any apparent sweetness with laser like precision, ushering in a medium length mineral-laden finish that's rich in wet gravel and toffee. This is one of my favorite Sauv Blancs. Still youthful and invigorating, it should drink well another 1-2 years.

Popped and poured after a long day at work. I like white wine when the weather outside is warmer and gorgeous, and that's how it was today. This wine is a very light yellow, almost colorless. The nose is very grassy and citrusy, with a stinging pungency that I only seem to get with a Sauv Blanc. The flavor profile is all citrus upfront, with lemon/lime, then a little sweet tropical/pineapple flavors, and a snappy acidity that gives this light bodied wine a tart and puckering finish. Then there are notes of wet stones and some spice. This wine has snap and verve for sure, it is very refreshing at the end of a warm fall day. Should continue to drink well for the next few years, as it still tastes very young and fresh.

Popped and poured. Light, pale yellow/straw hue. Forward aromas of yellow grapefruit, lemon zest, stone fruits, fresh cut grass, minerals, a touch of oak and perhaps even an additional subtle hint of fresh jalapeno. Light body...plush and deceiving, but light overall. On the palate, this Sauvignon Blanc really epitomizes what Napa should do with this varietal. It possesses a new world fruit profile that captures both the citrus and tropical aspects yet also shows an impression of minerals that is heightened through the moderate-plus level of acidity while also showing a touch of complexity through herbaceous notes that evoke mild, sweet basil (fresh, of course). Spice from oak is certainly noticeable yet plays understudy to the fruit (as it should). Too easy to drink on a hot day, this is in no danger of falling off and actually comes off as quite youthful, much more so than expected. However, still probably best to drink this outstanding bottle now and through the next 2-3 years. Nice juice.
Quick commentary: Have to mention again how much I like bottle for this wine...strikingly understated and elegant.

Lovely: crisp, floral, tropical. but not grapefruit citrusy like the NZ variant. A little light, but on a warm evening with grilled chicken legs and cabbage salad, perfect.

This has gone from "I can't believe Larkmead makes me buy the SB as part of the Firebelle list" to "this is really good SB!". Beautiful light golden color, modest nose, full, mouthcoating flavor on the palate with a lengthy finish. Lots of grapefruit, but no bitterness (grapefruit with a little sugar on top?). Maybe a bit of green apple as well. I like (but wouldn't you know it -- now it's NOT in the Firebelle allocation...)

Green apple and cut grass on the palate. Green apple on the palate with racing acidity. This is a nice wine - probably shows better after opened for a few hours and served closer to room temperatue. Nice wine - though there are probably better values in Cali SB.

So I am in the Larkmead wine club, and I do like SB. Ordinarily I do not like it when wine clubs make you buy something you do not want in order to get what you do want (in this case LMV and Solari Cab), but when the wine is this good, it just does not matter. On the nose you have some citrus with more of a tropical fruit note leaning towards pineapple with a touch of honey and damp earth (like after a light rain). On the palate this wine really comes through with intense gooseberry, yes gooseberry, a slight pineapple flavor, with a tart finish that is reminiscent of grapefruit, in this case the sweeter ruby red. The wine has just a hint of petrol in both bitter flavor, and mouthfeel. This wine definitely made in the fruit forward style, not a Kiwi grass/gasoline wine. I really enjoyed this. I am sitting on a couple of the 07's as well, as I am curious to see what happens with time. 50+5+13+16+6

Much better than the 2007 was at this stage. This has a much rounder feel and profile. It took a while for the 2007's acidity to integrate...this one drinks great now. Usually not a big fan of SB, but I like this.

Surprisingly refreshing: light, crisp, nice balance of floral notes and tropical fruits, without the in-your face citrus blast from New Zealand, or the tongue-flattening tart twist on the palate characteristic of South American Sauvignon Blancs, though without the heft and viscosity of the better French producers. Nice pairing with assorted cheeses followed by broiled sockeye salmon.

Popped and poured. Beautiful yellow-gold with a tinge of green. Forward aromas of fresh stone fruits, citrus, assorted tropical fruits, and a touch of minerals. Medium-light body. On the palate, this Sauvignon Blanc shows just as the nose promises, with flavors of citrus oils perfectly complimented by ripe stone fruits, and hints of pineapple. Notes of minerals and a touch of spicy oak develop as the wine warms in glass. Overall, a very well-balanced white, with perfect acidity for matching with a variety of cuisine. Drink over the short term.

Pear and pineapple on a dense, resinous, nectar-driven palate. Lush with acidity there but well in the background, fruit in the driver's seat. No grass, no "overly tart", this is a definite winner. Has an overall feel of a relatively bold chardonnay, without the big oak and butter.

14.1% ABV. Light straw in the glass. Aromas and flavors of lemon and lanolin with a touch of lime and mint thrown in. Maybe a suggestion of guava. Medium bodied with tangy acids. First, it is a disservice to serve this wine colder than 55 deg. It changes dramatically (in a good way) when it warms up. Nice nose with a mix of creamy apple and pineapple. The citrus flavors carried over to the palate with a very round, pleasant mouthfeel, and it retains that nice sauv blanc acidity. One would think that more than 12% new oak was used. These get better every year.
