Saturday, August 24, 2013 - brought to dinner at selkirk manor by marty s. we were celebrating keith and jean's 50th wedding anniversary. at the table were myself, pat, keith, jean, sandy and marty. neither of us recalled that we had had this wine together once before until a started doing my homework on CT after dinner. once again, marty and i have diverging opinions about this wine. he finds it to be rustic. i find it to be dominated by forward fruit. lots of ripe red cherry. perhaps some rhubarb. good body but i don't find tannins or acidity to carry forward further development. i would enjoy this wine more if the fruit were toned down a bit. i suspect that with the price he commands, mr. smith is trading on his reputation as a quality cab producer. i respect his statement that he is intentionally making wine to be enjoyed young. but, i think he needs to tweak the formula a bit.
