Saturday, February 26, 2011 - NC Cindy tasting. Sticking with the visual purple-with-a-red-rim theme, this wine suffered in the non-visual senses by comparison with what preceded it. The wine was a bit aromatically challenged with a touch of blackberry and not a whole lot else. On the palate, some blackberry and a little bit of spice, but not wildly complex and much less full and satisfying than the Aussie versions. It's more of a northern Rhone climate, so you might expect a lighter body, but in exchange for the delicate approach, I want complexity, depth, and balance. This doesn't quite deliver the way I would have hoped. It wasn't bad, but for ~$25 I would prefer a little more.
