92 Points

Saturday, May 27, 2006 - This was my bottle, purchased on release from The Chicago Wine Company in 1985. Mid to low neck fill, perfect appearance. I've had this wine several times before and never been impressed because it seemed too simple and slightly lacking in depth. But not this one; dark ruby to the rim, attractive scent of blackberry and vanilla. So no; it's not the most complex '82, but there's genuine distinction, a wealth of ripe fruit and an oaky touch as well - but now it all adds up to something really nice. A most pleasant middleweight with a beautifully rounded finish and a good future. A 4 hour decanting may have helped. These '82s are getting better and better.
