Wednesday, September 3, 2014 - Tasted blind.

Pale appley yellowish color with a faint green hue. Quite expressive and slightly developed nose with aromas of tangerine-driven sweet citrus fruits, floral jasmine, some autolytic brioche character, a little bit of nuttiness and a hint of ripe yellow stone fruit. The wine feels full-bodied, dry and quite fruity with dosage pushing through a little bit as an exaggerated feel of sweet ripeness. There are flavors of very ripe and soft yellow apple, some honeyed sweetness and a little bit of brioche autolysis. The mousse feels fine and quite persistent, but also a bit flabby and lacking in energy. The structure is well in balance with the fruit and the dosage, thanks to the high acidity. The finish is quite long with flavors of fresh citrus fruits, some chalky minerality and a hint of bready autolysis.

A well-made and balanced, but also a very ripe, fruit-forward and predictable Champagne. The wine is actually so safe and predictable it comes across as rather boring - there is no character to keep one interested for more than a few sips. I actually thought this was a Franciacorta based on the high level of ripeness, somewhat noticeable dosage and sense of sweet yellow fruits. Not particularly bad as a champagne, only oh so very boring. There are so many better bubblies to be had at 39,90€.
