Monday, January 9, 2012 - This is a MGSC blend which is a deep, dark purple in color. The wine has a nose of tart raspberries over crushed rocks. I get some mint and certainly black pepper spice, perhaps tobacco and wet soil. Smells so delicious, I could drink it. Then in the mouth, this wine expands considerably from what I would have expected from the tart nose. The cherry and raspberry fruits taste more ripe, with leather, spice and a minerality that defines this "2nd label Beaucastel." The mouthfeel is considerably bigger than I remember from previous bottles, and this wine will drink beautifully for the next 3-5 years. Gorgeous with all types of hearty dishes, or all on it's own.
