Saturday, January 14, 2023 - As soon as I saw the colour I knew it would be good - barely a hint of brown on the edges. A very attractive nose of dark cherries, redcurrants, a little plum and a hint of mint. The first sip gave the game away - still fresh and fruity: Quite fresh at first, with red cherries and redcurrants, then wham - the intensity hits - wild strawberry and loganberry go straight to the top of the palate, followed by Victoria plums, before it eases into a very luxuriant, persistent finish, with just enough acidity to keep it away from any stodginess.

The style is really pretty classic - nothing OTT here. Absolutely delicious.

I’ve had quite a few MSG 2000s over the years and they haven’t always been great - clearly I opened them too early, because the improvement started a couple of years ago and this is the best by far. Probably the best MSG I have tried, in fact, certainly one of the best St.Emilions I’ve had from 2000. Only the fact I tried an even better Rauzan-Ségla 2000 not long ago prevents me from giving this more than 95 points
