First of four bottles ex WineBid. Decanted off of thick chunky sediment.
Moderately clear in the glass, garnet to a brick rim.
Nose has quite a bit of tertiary development; soy sauce/umami, touch of balsamic, library books, suede, dried flowers. There is still some soft fruit, more in the red spectrum. Pencilly. Oak not perceptible.
On the palate the wine has medium- body, mid-minus tannin, moderate acidity, moderate alcohol, medium-long finish. The texture is really nice, quite silky. The flavors largely follow the nose though the fruit is quite a bit more perceptible; bit of balsamic strawberry effect; plus some very nice sweet old-book vanillin.
This bottle seems like it was further along than some of the notes posted recently but it was certainly enjoyable — just did not come across as surprisingly youthful.

As soon as I saw the colour I knew it would be good - barely a hint of brown on the edges. A very attractive nose of dark cherries, redcurrants, a little plum and a hint of mint. The first sip gave the game away - still fresh and fruity: Quite fresh at first, with red cherries and redcurrants, then wham - the intensity hits - wild strawberry and loganberry go straight to the top of the palate, followed by Victoria plums, before it eases into a very luxuriant, persistent finish, with just enough acidity to keep it away from any stodginess.
The style is really pretty classic - nothing OTT here. Absolutely delicious.
I’ve had quite a few MSG 2000s over the years and they haven’t always been great - clearly I opened them too early, because the improvement started a couple of years ago and this is the best by far. Probably the best MSG I have tried, in fact, certainly one of the best St.Emilions I’ve had from 2000. Only the fact I tried an even better Rauzan-Ségla 2000 not long ago prevents me from giving this more than 95 points

Much better than the last one tried in 2014, this has a fresh, minty nose with dark cherries and redcurrants, before a very fresh, crisp attack dominated by the dark cherries. The middle section is slightly richer, with strong hints of loganberries but the finish is still rather short. Very young still, it could improve further but not as good as the 01.

Ready clean if a little thin and wispy aromatics of espresso and tobacco and roasted organic earth set amidst pruneaux and cherryish fruit. Nicely tart and endowed with a relative wealth of surviving tannins that outta keep this midweight in fine shape for some years to come.

Great! Fully mature. Bit of a funky nose that mostly blew off in 60-90 min in the decanter. Followed for another cpl hours and it didn't fall off. Still some tannins and fruit left. Ruby red. There is lots of leather, plum, red raspberries and mocha in the aromatic profile. On the palate, red fruits and earth are accompanied by a serious acidic streak, iron and bitter chocolate that lingers on the palate. This is a very nice, classic St. Emilion that squarely in its drinking window, where it should remain for the better part of a decade, if not longer. A terrific value at its $28 release price. 93.

Purchased at release and properly cellared since then. No decanting, served straight from the bottle. Darker fruit, earthy, leather, tobacco notes on the bouquet. Very well integrated. Medium bodied, good finish. I'd say it's on a nice plateau right now and on that plateau for the next 5-7 years. Well done!

Well balanced and harmonious with cassis, floral components and roasted meat lingering on a medium long finish. At peak.

Gut entwickelt!

this is what Bordeaux should be -- smooth, intense on the nose and palate, yet light as a feather and with moderate alcohol that allows enjoyable consumption without worry about getting hammered. lots of stuff going on here -- currants, plums, leather, mint and a touch of coconut from the barrel toast, yet no woodiness.

Full bodied reds; 8/1/2016-8/17/2016 (Home, San Francisco): Coravin 8/5/16: Deep clear ruby with very minimal bricking less than expected for its age; nose is aromatic, dusty leather, blackberry, clove spice, slightly herbal; palate is full bodied, tannins are still youthful though approachable, black fruit; medium finish. Chateau is 80% merlot, 20% cab franc and made by the same team as Chateau Ausone. Overall a very good St. Emilion, traditionally made, not too much new oak and showing some secondary complexity but still excellent youthful fruit, for the price on release this is silly value. Drinking well now and will continue to drink well for years. 91 Finished the rest a week later (Coravin so well preserved) and it was just stunning. Aromatic, complex nose and the clear standout in a lineup of 4 wines. 91-93

Purchased early tranch after a 2000 horizontal tasting. great value, still a good value at latter prices.
As always (almost), poured through Venturi into ships decanter.
Some granular sediment and larger chunks. Nice purple color no bricking at all.
Awesome franc nose, leather and spice.
I think I recall 80 merlot 20 cab franc.
Great flavor right after pour, am pretty sure it will be gone before fully evolved tonight. (Especially since my wife likes it as well, I passed my glass for her to taste and show would not give it back). Wish I had more, probably drank some too soo, but it was always good.

Deep ruby, now slightly more transparent. First thing to say, the tannins have now very definitely smoothed out. Silky texture. Tons of dark plummy fruit, touches of black cherry. Even better on the second night so still room to develop. Fine balance, good acidity. Finish only medium length but this isn't a major wine after all.

You have to like oak tannins to like this wine. The tannins are copious and aggressive but the fruits are bold and hedonistic to offset them. I'm not sure if the tannins will diminish in the future, but I hope so as this will then be a spectacular wine. It is still a wonderful value.

Somehow, I've gone through a case of this wine! I've got a bunch of classified growths yet to touch from 2000. This wine seems to get better each time I've had it and I'm sure it'll evolve for many years. Soft dark fruit mixed balanced with the right amount of acidity and minerality. The kind of bargain Bordeaux we all would like to have more of.

Mid to deep ruby, no fading. Nose has some menthol and meat touches, red fruits. Still a very big St Emilion really. Fruits are red plums, maybe blackberry with a real touch of dark chocolate.Smoothed out and better integrated after 24hrs open. Tannins still quite aggressive really. Good acidity. Clean finish. First of the case so just leave it a fair while before trying again. Good potential. Second 2000 BDX of the w/e, these are big tough wines still.

Wine Cellar - Bordeaux Right Bank (sort of) (Wine Cellar): (Tasted Blind): A medium to deep orange rim. Intriguing notes of bitumen and tar, black and red fruit, and deep smokiness. A big, full-bodied wine exhibiting grainy tannins and notes of black cherry, dried herbs and tilled soil. Lovely intensity.

Wine Cellar - Bordeaux 2000 (Wine Cellar, Cape Town): (Tasted Blind):A medium garnet colour, the wine has some development shown by a bouquet of Sous-Bois, earth and wild herbs. The entry shows very ripe fruits with a rich concentration of flavour and a high level of extract. The presence of furfurol tends to invade the mid-palate, but underneath lurk some cherries, spice and a touch of forest berries and flowers. Owned by Alain Dauthier

i impulsively pulled this after sifting thru my dewey decimal system type card catalog of my inventory that i keep in the kitchen. i am compulsive about using CT!, but i can't kick the convenience and habit of the cards as an adjunct, and i rather like not reading my old notes before tasting, etc. i speculated to jane about when we might have had this last, and now i see that it was almost three years ago. i didn't decant this bottle, but followed in the glass a couple of hours, and i have a third of it gassed and standing in the fridge for later today. i'm still unsure of the blend (somewhat of an aggravation), but the wine gave a lot of pleasure. it actually smelled a little left bank, but the taste had no resemblence to cabernet. tannins are determined, and i think their reluctance to melt a bit keeps the score in the low 90s, i.e. a very nice wine, but far from lush and rounded. kind of a smoky-licorice thing going on. certainly, a merlot to show off, especially for it's paltry price.
ok, so how 'bout a 24 hour update? first of all, i looked up the standard blend percentages as given in parker's latest bordeaux book: 60% merlot, 34% cab franc, 6% cabernet. secondly, this wine really kicked some butt overnight. that's not to say that it got "better", just that it's structure and excellent qualities validated my opinion of it being a very nice wine. time sandpapered the corners, and smoothed out some tannin, so i'd recommend an aggressive decant or vinturi to move things along in the short term. drink, or hold with confidence to allow further secondary and tertiary nuances.

pop and pour - the rest went into a decanter. Wonderful nose of leather, ripe fruit and cedar.
Dark and full colored. Nice legs, tannins do not inhibit enjoyment, but it paired better with a steak than on its own. After an hour or two in the decanter- it began to shut down a little. While it was signing - taste was dark berry fruit, slight hint of dust with a little cedar/cigar box.
Better than I expected. No need to hold - but I think this will get a little better with time. These are auction purchases so I don't know how they were stored prior to last summer.

A lovely wine, and our first bottle from the 2000 vintage in general, as well from as this vineyard in particular, from a futures order. A wait that would appear to have been very worthwhile! Decanted, not a great deal of sediment. Dark ruby and an expressive nose of red fruit, some spice, a bit of earth. Smooth palate and a lingering, medium finish. Not at all tannic; rather, it seemed very integrated.

This is fantastic. I've never had this wine's big brother (Ausone) but if you had to do a price to quality comparison between the two, I suspect the value this wine brings would be laughable given the price. Very glad to have a case of this to enjoy for a long time.

Decanted to remove sediment. Dark purple, with no hint of age. Deep cassis and plum nose with aromas of mushroom, leather, and graphite minerality. Lots of dark fruits in midpalate, finishing with a slight raspberry tang on the finish. Smooth, resolved tannins and nicely balanced acidity. Slight bitter, moderately-long finish (oil-cured black olives meet coffee grounds). Overall, a very interesting wine, with new and old world characteristics. Would be a great ringer at a California cab blind tasting.

very quick here as jane is going apoplectic at my being online at our hosts' mountain home (flippin' beautiful, BTW). i threw this in with the four (!) cases of wine i took with us (well, i couldn't decide ), because my dear friend, dan teng, pimped me about drinking a bordeaux yesterday. i have 99% of my 2000's in off site storage just to prevent impulsive openings such as this. what's the blend on this? it can't be 100% merlot. i think i paid around $30 for this wine, and i sure wish i had more than one other bottle. this is delicious, and very much more vibrant and expressive than the 98 clerc milon i reported on last night. man, it's going to be sheer delight wading through this vintage as time goes on. recommended. happy new year!

Finished the rest a week later (Coravin so well preserved) and it was just stunning.

The presence of furfurol tends to invade the mid-palate, but underneath lurk some cherries, spice and a touch of forest berries and flowers.

i impulsively pulled this after sifting thru my dewey decimal system type card catalog of my inventory that i keep in the kitchen. i am compulsive about using CT!, but i can't kick the convenience and habit of the cards as an adjunct, and i rather like not reading my old notes before tasting, etc. i speculated to jane about when we might have had this last, and now i see that it was almost three years ago. i didn't decant this bottle, but followed in the glass a couple of hours, and i have a third of it gassed and standing in the fridge for later today. i'm still unsure of the blend (somewhat of an aggravation), but the wine gave a lot of pleasure. it actually smelled a little left bank, but the taste had no resemblence to cabernet. tannins are determined, and i think their reluctance to melt a bit keeps the score in the low 90s, i.e. a very nice wine, but far from lush and rounded. kind of a smoky-licorice thing going on. certainly, a merlot to show off, especially for it's paltry price.
ok, so how 'bout a 24 hour update? first of all, i looked up the standard blend percentages as given in parker's latest bordeaux book: 60% merlot, 34% cab franc, 6% cabernet. secondly, this wine really kicked some butt overnight. that's not to say that it got "better", just that it's structure and excellent qualities validated my opinion of it being a very nice wine. time sandpapered the corners, and smoothed out some tannin, so i'd recommend an aggressive decant or vinturi to move things along in the short term. drink, or hold with confidence to allow further secondary and tertiary nuances.

pop and pour - the rest went into a decanter.
