91 Points

Wednesday, August 23, 2023 - Good bottle (think from Simon Beatty’s cellar). Needs 20mins to settle, when great nose of liquorice, Chinese plums and cinnamon. In the mouth though it’s a bit woody and hollow - nowhere near the fruit density or complexity of 89 Pegau or Beaucastel, and lots of astringency as it also finishes hot (needs serving cool, but also airing). It’s not aged well and needs drinking up. Nice minty finish though. Not a fan of more modern Janasse… or older vintages it seems. Luckily paired with rich Spanish food which absorbed some of the short-comings. 91pts… 92pts with food, drink up
