Saturday, June 4, 2011 - Loved this wine, what a combination with some nw grass-fed oxtail braised with red wine, fennel and root vegetables! Very interesting nose of mushrooms and dare I say truffles? These then give way to rose, and some citrus peel. On the palate, very well balanced, the red and black fruit held back just the right amount. Great acidic structure and the tannins, very well integrated by now, complete the taste with some black tea-like notes that are actually well matched to the rest. The finish is medium, not very long. This is definitely an underrated vintage, and this wine is a great example of what a talented winemaker can do with a more complicated season. I preferred this wine to many from the storied '08.
