Saturday, April 30, 2016 - Dinner at Piccolo (Piccolo, Mpls): Gorgeous deep gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 40 minutes. This was the star of the night - no surprise there! Immensely complex and thought provoking on the nose and palate. The nose has great phenolic character, what I tend to call lacquer, dried fruits, fig, nutty, dried pear, apple, quince, spicebox, and prominent anise note emerges as it opens. The palate is dense, layered and full bodied, carrying power and texture, nutty, phenolic, dried fruits, lemon, oily, pear, quince, anise, and great dried spice. This has a long finish. Reminds me of an older LDH Rioja. Wonderful wine, just hitting its stride I suspect, as this kept improving in the glass. 94 to 94+pts.
