Wednesday, February 13, 2019 - From a vertical of Mugnier's Marechal 2004 to 2016. Dark, almost paque in colour, not very typical of PN. Doesn't give much on the nose, but after some minutes in the glass weak tones of dark forest berries (blackberries) and dark cherries emerge together with a smokey tone. Full bodied, but a heavy load of quite dry tannins quickly sets in and gives an almost brutal impression. The fruit is sweet, acidity is quite low, while the tannins are clearly on the dry side. The aftertaste is almost bitter, but still the fruit manages to balance it somehow. This is similar to several other 09s I have drunk, reflecting the scorching heat of the vintage. Not very typical NSG, nor PN, and far from elegant.
