Saturday, March 9, 2013 - Saturday night special with venison steak, salsa verde sauce, potato gratin and courgette confit followed by various cheeses and ice cream.

Decanted an hour before, immediate oh, so welcome aroma of blackberry, cassis and raspberry. A step off perfection, a restrained reminder of the heavenly Haut Bages Liberal 2006 pre-Christmas.

Surprised by how resolved the tannins seemed already, not even a small forced cough. Consistent in colour - purple red - and in structure - every sip the same over two sublime hours. Easily held its own with and against a range of food flavours but combining best with the seasoned venison.

Only drawback was the all too short sign-off, a brush with coffee and undergrowth and then gone with scant evidence it was ever there.

However if an average Las Cases vintage can deliver so much, so young - more must await in finer years. To be explored further when resources permit.
