Thursday, January 6, 2022 - Found this old bottle of overture in a small town abc store in Indiana, and if I have deciphered the bottle number correctly, it was bottled in 1999. Decanted for four hours. In the glass this wine is a medium+ intensity ruby. On the nose some alcohol is still present, though blowing off over the course of decanting. Also present are juicy dark fruits, crushed stone and delicate floral notes. On the tongue ripe raspberry alongside cassis, tart cherries, white peppercorns, and crushed violets. Tannins are fine and well integrated, and acidity is balanced well with the fruit. Smooth focused mouthfeel, with medium+ to long finish. When I initially opened this bottle, the wine presented on the palate as disjointed, and I had feared it was past its prime. After four hours however, the elements came further most harmoniously. 1999 was a cooler vintage for Napa, and congruent with that, I found this Bordeaux blend to be in line more with what I expect from a French Bordeaux. Recommend drinking this within the next few years, as I feel it is on end of its prime drinking window. ~93 pts
