Friday, October 30, 2009 - 6 hours in decanter. Opaque crimson wine. Massive nose of focussed black fruit, garden mint and some alcohol. A little floral complexity and yeast (a touch bretty?). Very rich and almost savoury blackcurrant, plum and cherry flavours on the attack flowing through toa drying mid palate and moderately long toasty finish. Perhaps just a little green(?) but good complexity. Plenty of structure here, maybe give it a couple of years but drinking not too badly. A lovely wine by most standards although not a great Ornellaia - some of that minerality and balancing acidity/freshness so clear in a great vintage is a little lacking. An Orneallaia for food.
