To decant or not? 2006 Pinot Noir and a few more: I have not had this since release. Not the greatest vintage, this wine is still going strong. A few of us did wonder how Garnacha can make a black wine. In any event, the nose has plums, raspberries, and vanilla. On the palate, this is not as big as I was expecting. It is youthful with a nice complexity. Juicy texture. Nice balance. Mostly black raspberries but some dark cherries. Nice finish.

Wednesday Night Blind - June 2010 (Peter Pratt's Inn): tasted blind - This was huge, rich, ripe, sweet fruit, a huge nose of bacon fat, blueberry and licorice. I thought for sure this was a big Washington St Syrah, perhaps Cayuse. It was very well balanced, and not over the top at all, but a monster wine. Really delicious!

Saturday Tasting Group (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (Northbrook, IL)): A super big wine showing lots of menthol, anise and piney qualities. Dark and really really rich. Borderline too over the top. Unique style with layers of flavors. Pruney almost Amarone like with its raisinated liqueured fruit. Big and sappy Grenache - one of the biggest wines of the day by far. A monster effort almost equalling the weight of the actual bottle. High alcohol, high tannins, though well integrated. Showing a good dose of oak, but I like this wine. Very well endowed. A masculine tour de force. Excellent but for the money you may as well get the regular Moncayo bottling for 1/3 of the price.

RUSSK WWiz at Valentinos, one of my favs that night. Manny brought. Very nice nose and great balance (even with the high alc). Would buy, but for price.

Really singing right now. Agree with other notes- a big wine but nicely (surprisingly) restrained. Sweet cherries, leather, tobacco. Very drinkable, with, and without food. A bit over priced, and this is what prevents this from getting a higher score.

Big brooding nose of smoked meats, heavy earth tones & tobacco. The wine was surprisingly gentle faded & thin. Finish was clean focused & lengthy. Elegant & simple to me more food friendly.

This almost had the nose of a Barossa shiraz. Huge, black fruits on the nose. Shiraz like on the palate as well. Great wine but I don't know if it's worth the $115.

Very grenache. Sweet red cherry with characteristic Spanish dusty leather. Some noticable vanilla oak influence. Suprisingly reserved (which isn't to say light bodied by any means) and a nice change from some overbloan "big" Spanish wines. Good length and very cleanly made. Lots of alcohol. Fine-grain, blanced, wood tannins. ***+

Blackberries, ripe perfect cherries, roasted sirloin on the nose. Just huge, intense, palate staining wine. Great ripe fruit with superb midpalate and verve, tons of minerality and roasted flavors on the finish that accompany great acidity. Let this beast chill for a year and revisit.. but a great wine with my standing rib roast.

Black fruit with spice overtones on the palate. Tremendous nose, reminiscent of an intense Cab Franc.
