  • shared with pat at selkirk manor. pulled this bottle because other tasters were reporting bad experiences. my bottle was in good shape. i consider this to be one of the better M d'A's. wish it were more readily available at retail. my tasting notes mirror notes on back label. generous nose. full in the mouth. lots of cherry and coffee. i don't get that much spice but it does have a rustic quality. well kept bottles should continue to offer pleasure for at least another year or two. perhaps longer.

  • Absolutely disappointing wine. No nose, no fruit, raw and aggressive tannins, very astringent finish. Barely drinkable.
Een absolute flop. Geen bouquet, geen fruit, ruwe en agressieve tannines, extreem astringente afdronk. Nauwelijks drinkbaar.

  • Nice wine, simple and pleasant. Ruby red with violet glow. Thin suspended sediment. Pleasurable, cherry, plum, balsamic, nicely integrated oak, toasted coffee. After a while losts of pepper and a delightfull hint of graphite. Medium body, silky feel of ripe fruit, cherry and chocolate. It can get a litle nauseating, but it doesn't compromise. Soft tanins, maybe excessively soft, and present acidity. I miss some power on this. Medium finish is really a highlight, with pepper and intriguing spices

  • Shy nose of damp woodpile, smoke, sour cherries, black cherries, medicine cabinet, and meat. Cranberry, sour cherry, earth, and black cherry under a blanket of tannins. Good but slightly shrill acidity, simple, slightly thin, short finish. Overall, I didn't find this very pleasurable.

  • too bitter for my taste, and not enough to balance it all out.

  • Hints of cherry and balsamic. Not very good but drinkable after decanting for an hour. Would not buy again.

  • After enjoying the 2006 I was quite disappointed by the 2007. The nose is muted and the palate lacks fruit, leaving tannins and acidity unbalanced.

  • I did not like this wine, at all. Got marginaly better the second day but never shed that "cheap red" flavor that I so despise. This was recommended to me and so I was very very dissapointed. Not even a good cheap italian red to pair with pasta; there are WAY better ones out there even at this price point.

  • Notes of cherries and plum backed by smoke and herbs. This is medium bodied and very soft and silky on the palate through the finish. A nice wine to pair with pasta dishes. (Drink 2012-2013) - June, 2012. (JD)

  • Black rose in color, shifting to scarlet at the edges. The label lists "balsamic", along with cherry fading to spice, and coffee aromas. When first opened, this bottle had noticeably more melony fruit and mustiness than the two other Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wines in the tasting. Much of the bottle was left afterward, and when reopened hours later a new and overpowering odor of boiling wood pulp and sour meat assaulted the nose. Every few hours, when the lignen, chemically-treated lumber, and tang of expired meat seemed to have finally blown off, pouring or otherwise disturbing the liquid immediately brought them surging back. Out of curiosity I decided to see how long it could last, and three days of decanting later, the offensive smells had faded enough to allow consumption. In the mouth, cherry, red plum, dry spice, medium tannins and a perky acidity can be found. The scent of dark bread crust, cedar, Kona coffee, and overripe citrus made it through the days of exposure to the air. I can't count the bottle as flawed because the off-putting odors did not manifest for hours, and eventually the wine worked through them and was drinkable.

  • Made from 100 percent Montepulciano grapes. Elevated for 14 months in oak barrels. Wine with a deep dark ruby-red color and nice cherry and plum fruit on the nose. Cannot give a proper note at present as the wine is still quite closed, with firm and obtrusive tannins. As the matter of fact, the whole seems a bit out of balance. I think this wine will get better with 2-3 more years in the bottle.

Got three glasses in Italian Gambero Rosso guide - highest score! Shining ruby red; on the nose much vanilla, sweet cherry, bright tobacco, young and modern; much red fruit on the palate, sour cherry, fine grained tannins, youthful charm, a fruity and long finish - much wine for only 7 Euros!
