  • At Carmine's in Chicago w/Todd. Great old school Italian spot with a gentle corkage tariff... First bottle from this batch bought from the PNV auction. Decanted for about 45 minutes, drank over an hour.

Inky, dark purple color, no signs of age. Nose showing dark fruits, dried flowers, oak. Lush and fruit forward palate showing dark berries, blue fruits, cassis, mocha, slight nuttiness (?), minerals. A lot going on here - full bodied and long finish. Tannins still present w/ slight grip...

This is a large scale, powerful wine still early in its evolution. If tasted blind would not have pegged this approaching 10 years. Big and fruit forward, in traditional Phelps style it pulls off ripe without being overpowering. Really great wine now, I think will do even better with additional cellar time. Tannins could still soften a bit more...guess is score goes higher in time 94+
