Drinking gorgeously at present. Mushroom pâté, marjoram, white pepper, boysenberry, red currant, fresh blood, wet clay. Excellent balance of fresh fruit and acid. Silky integrated tannins. Paired exceptionally with cassoulet and duck confit. Drinks well right out of the bottle, but decant and wait an hour to let it fully open.

Big nose of dark berries and plum. The palate is thick and bold but a little muddled. Lots of ripe cherries and other dark berries. A little dusty sensation and some oak were definitely there. Would have loved a little more purity of fruit but not bad for what I like.

Vibrant wine. Dark cherry color. Pretty nose of blackberry and black cherry fruit, with a nice earthy-minerally edge. In the mouth, plush and well-textured, with more prominent blackberry fruit. A good streak of earth, light spice, and a spike of minerality that goes with the strong acidity. Solid finish. A-

Russian River & Anderson Valleys, April 27; 5/16/2013-5/21/2013: Notes of anise, eucalyptus, black cherry and fig. Richly layered palate with lots of spice and red fruit. Round ripe tannins and nice acidity. Showing well- very nice.

Drank this with John at Restaurant North. Some alch that quickly blew off. A good solid wine at $40.
