Decanted. This is superb now, still big and strong, but with a fine elegance, sweet cassis with a bit of bloody meat, topped of with garrigue and lilac. The palate is still nice and fruity, with good acidity and tannins, dark fruits, cassis. I think this is it, the peak, it won't get better. Excellent!

Wow, this grenache/syrah blend is packed with concentrated raspberry, plum and blackberry fruit. Powerful wine with hint of dark chocolate. Fine tannin indicates it can wait a couple of years but the fruit is enjoyably fresh now.

Popped and poured. This is a big wine, very strong fruity smells of plums and blackberries, cassis, inky black with a tiny hint of oak. The palate is also very fruity with bitter dark chocolate. A very robust wine, very well made in its own style. Delicious!

Evolved from a tough, closed wine to a generously ripe and opulent fruit-driven blend. Very hedonistic with viscous, dense texture. Ripe raspberry, plum and black cherry notes. Hints of black pepper, dark chocolate and licorice. Ready to drink.

After being open for 24 hours, this wine takes a really fruity and smooth approach. Crushed berries, chocolate shavings and a hint of meat on the nose. The palate is full of raspberry and cherry fruit, creamy mouthfeel, accents of vanilla and pepper. A crowd-pleasing wine that delivers some nice complexity for the price.

nose: black cherry, intense smoky wood and smoke, black plum, hint of molasses, strawberry syrup, vanilla, cocoa powder, very black forest cake like nose. Taste: smooth, cappuccino, vanilla, soy milk, chocolate, cherry, apricot, warm spices, basil, balsamic, vanilla oak. Creamy texture and creamy tannin. Taste very much like espresso crema. Peppery, and very desert like in terms of the finish. Medium body, medium dry. Finish carries sour cherry and a bit of over the top sweetness (brown sugar). Also some artificial strawberry syrup. cologne-ish where the wine is attractive yet seems to lack genuineness.

Decanted for about 40 mins. The nose is quite powerful, with meaty tones and some lilac. The palate is quite tannic, lots of red fruit, got a bit of an edge on it and a bit of a sting to it. This is very young at the moment, wound up and needs a lot of time to get where it's going, but I like where it's going. Give the next bottle another 4 years before popping. The score will definitely go up then.

Visiting L'Oustal Blanc (La Liviniére): Tasted at the winery. 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah (only the Syrah in oak). Enticing nose of meat, lavender, dark fruits, very velvety mouthfeel, lots of minerals, delicious!
