For whatever reason this bottle came across as a lot more rough than my earlier TN. Odd because this time I decanted the wine - the cork having disintegrated on me. Maybe a faulty cork messed this one up, but it was not an obvious case of oxidation. Anyway, rougher tannins and more alcohol burn than I remember. score : 90. Relative to expectations :+

Well, I remember thinking : this has a little bit of everything in the nose: blackberry/blueberry, well delineated edge of spearmint, strong herbeaceoud contours to the bouquet, pumice/graphite, leather? -As you can tell, each dimension is not that precise but this wine has a little of it all. If I had to give a lesson to someone who drank a lot of jammy swill but wanted to know what all the wine wankers were on about, this would be a great master class in opening the door to what complexity means. No it is not as good as a great Spanish or Bordeaux but it is excellent value for money with a lot to think about while being very pleasant to drink at the same time. Wears its 15% abv with some grace. Put me in a good mood. Mission accomplished. Score : 91. Relative to expectations: ++

Very dark. Berry fruit of some depth and alcohol on the nose. Richly flavoured with dark berry and plum. grainy tannin and a little bitterness (alcohol?), this has the acid to last another half decade, easily.

Similar nose to the 07 Salanques, just a bit more reserved. Similar color as well. More tannin and acid with fruit taking a secondary role. Cottony tannins but still lots of fun. Finish comes across more succulent though... enjoy now.

Similar nose to the 2007 Salanques with cassis, dark cherry and a dill/menthol component, but not as aromatic Succulent in the mouth, missing the bright acidity the 2007 had. Smooth finish.

Decante une heure... Odeur de petrole, cuir et amande dominent le fruit rouge. Belle longueur, concentration et rondeur en bouche. Tannins souples. Bel equilibre.

Hazy purple in color, with aromas of raspberry, bramble, slate, and anise. I really enjoyed the aroma, and there was enough fruit and spice on the palate, along with complexity, to keep me interested -- definitely enough for a 90 point score, although a step down from the 2006 vintage. Finely grained tannins lead to a finish which shows good length and a touch of complexity. This paired fairly well with a feta tomato based pasta dish - a tough pairing. This wine works well by itself and with food.

Followed Benj's advice and decanted for one hour. First sip after pouring into a decanter was really tight. The hour of air time helped this. This was not my favorite, but it is a well made wine IMO.

The Iberian Peninsula (My apartment): Should have decanted. Too big right now. After 10 minutes of aggressive swirling of a very small quantity, this revealed some gorgeous berry and juniper notes. Quite lovely - very perfumed and quite an intense sip. Certainly not for the faint of heart, but then I don't think much Priorat is. 15%, $30.

Sometimes a Côtes du Rhône grenache/syrah blend can express "flowery" characteristics that are undesirable to some tasters and relished by others. This Spanish Priorat Salanques grenache/syrah blend presents an ideal balance of fruit, fully-integrated soft tannins, and refreshing acidity, with "blossom" characteristics merely hinted at rather than highlighted. The fruit is complex and delightful, covering the range of red and dark fruit and berries, earth tones, wood, and spices. The palate timeline evolves through distinct stages. Exceptional wine, drinking well, and highly recommended.

Pop and pour ... Bright and tight upon first opening, this one is still a bit of a tannic beast and definitely needs more time. Not showing perfectly, but hints at a very nicely done, classic Spanish Grenache. Not bad now, but definitely appears to have better days ahead. Hold.

Similar notes as last time. The nose explodes after just 15 minutes, with loads of fruit on the palate. Really noticed the blueberry this time. The perfect midpoint between a Priorat and a Cotes-du-Rhone. No hard edges, no noticeable tannins, perfectly balanced, this is good to go right now. Also, same experience as the tasting: after one hour being open, the alcohol became more noticeable. Do not decant this for more than 10-15 minutes.

Tried at tasting. Excellent nose. Black and blue fruits on the palate with sweet oak and some spices adding complexity. 20 sec finish. Careful: 1 hour after initial taste, I noticed more of the alcohol content. This was excellent 15-30 minutes after the store opened it.
