Who says Chianti Classico can't age? At 20-years, this is pretty damn good. Red fruits are predominant but mostly have given way to the tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, red licorice, and cedar. Nice acidity still with a good finish. Love it.

Nyårsafton hos P+A med F+AK och barn (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): (Decanted for half an hour, and put back into bottle, From magnum) Deep red colour with a maturing nose showing herbs, cinnamon and fresh cut grass at first and opens up with leather and liquorice in a very nice and pleasant way. Still showing tannins on the palate with a fruitful sweetness that is fading away now focusing on more tertiary notes of leather and dried fruit. Best bottle I’ve had of this vintage so far.. (Best 2013-2028)

(Decanted for one hour) Brick red colour with a mature nose showing leather, stables and forest floor. Opens up with some mocha notes in a delicious way. Smoothing tannins on the nice and warm palate showing a fruity acidity and with a lengthy finish showing tertiary notes of dried fruit and leather. Red colour with a brick red hue. Nose is mature with mocca, leather and cherries. This is drinking very nicely with a fleshy, warm and smooth palate with a nice long finish. This is very good with food like grilled fillet of lamb.

The warmth of the vintage is showing both in the nose and palate with jammy morels. Yet, with decanting for a couple of hours it opens up with leather, forest floor and cherries. This is from a half bottle, and I suspect normal bottles and magnums can integrate a bit better from what I've seen so far. But I wouldn't keep them too long.

A little funky at first, but opened up an became a real beauty. Rich plummy, dark cherries dipped in chocolate. Moderate spicy hints. Great nose. The fruit is mature but its still on the deep red side rather than brown. The tannins are very integrated and fading quickly, personally would have liked some better grip from 2 years ago probably. Great concentrated juicy oaky ending. Its definately generous monster in elegant clothes. Can probably hold for another 2 years but I wouldnt wait. Risky.

Dark lush fruit with med low acidity and a nice finish. Atypical richness for a Sangiovese. I have had a few bottles from this vintage that have been tired and cooked and others were amazing like this. One left in the cellar.

This is a year past its recommended ending drink date but... it's delicious. This might be the best Chianti I've tasted in a while. A subtle but elegant bouquet, a great mouth which comes across on first sip as a tiny bit too sweet and the second sip provides some easy going tannins and a great feel. Finally the finish is very long and elegant. This makes my evening.

We drank this wine together with reindeer inner fillet and fried potatoes and porcini mushrooms. The bouquet was fruity (red fruits). We really liked the taste from a good Chianti. It was a very good wine so to say. I´m sorry that this was my last bottle.

The christmas spice/root beer character is slowly taking over the typical tuscan bouquet. The acidity is still pronounced, the fruit quite large and the finish a bit square and falls short. Quite enjoyable though, with pecorino, even if it's too oaky. Time to drink up.

The year that few producers come out with good quality bottle. Using 2001 benchmark, this is not a shy cousin by far, opened up readily, aromatic notes of ripe berries, forest dark fruits, plums, jam, smoke oak, Tuscan earth and mushrooms. Silky and leathery textured palate with forward readily presentable layers of fruity flavours, singing and lasting a good length into finish. As I remember previously, tannin was quite firm and gripping with acid prominent at the side when I have it in 2007. Tannin has since mellowed a greet deal, and I think it still have a lot of life ahead.

The professional notes state that this wine should be drunk by 2013. I completely disagree. There is a lot of life in this bottle. On the nose, the wine is not shy. Only downside was a slightly pruney/slightly alcohol note in the nose. Otherwise it had great minerals in the taste, rich, pencil lead, cherries and a silky mouthfeel. I don't know what this would have sold for normally but at the Garagiste price it was a great value.

The earliest to mature, of all Castello di Brolio vintages. Similar to 2000, but even smoother. With beautiful tears in the glass, the wine has the behaviour of a silk dress. Cherries to raspberries, fresh ginger and ground almond on the nose. Taste has herbs and minerals to the fore, then goes on with sweet and soft, dark chocolatey tannins. Finish is quite intense, and gives a long maraschino aftertaste. Not for the cellar, but velvety and smooth right now.

Ripe morello cherries, plum, hints of horse stable, cinnamon, chocolate, espresso. Round and velvety on the palate, with dark chocolate and sweetness from very ripe grapes, and no bitterness. Still it is more of a really nice wine than a "grand vin". The slightly austere tannin structure, so typical for this wine, is missing this year, so it's not really a cellar wine. But it's delicious right now - we'll drink it over the next two years. With bistecca fiorentina, salt, lemon, parsley, garlic and insalata di fagioli.

Transparent ruby red with blue reflections. Beautiful aromas rise more than willingly out of the glass: cherries, cherry cores, bitter almond, tarragon, sage, stone and iron, toasty oak and dark chocolate. The smooth and finely tuned taste matches the nose perfectly. Sweet cherries, round mouthfeel, good acids, soft tannins. Doesn't necessarily need cellaring. We won't have to wait a long time for this one, like we did and still do for the 97, 98 an 99. This is more in the vein of the 2000. But the 2003 is even more tailored, harmonious and easydrinking when young. Winemaking is making progress at Ricasoli headquarters.
