  • A traditional beefy, earthy, rounded and tasty Rioja reserva with some pronounced, singular almost pickled acidity on the medium bodied lush, earthy fruity palate . This is maybe a fault. Has a sculpted earthy fruity medium zingy finish. A couple of points taken off.

  • Really liked it. Very well rounded, some herbal flavors, dark chocolate and a nice finish. Not a big wine neither very complex, but it comes together very nicely with no flaws at all. Opened to bottles at dinner and both were very consistent. Great value as well.

  • Good – clean dark ruby / purple appearance; fruit and oakiness on nose; off-dry; low/mid acidity; full body; mid tannins; mid length finish; surprisingly soft; slightly mouth drying finish; dark fruits; vanilla; oak – not that well integrated yet; quite alcoholic; had with veal escalopes – was advertised in restaurant as Gran Reserva but when it arrived was the Reserva – no price reduction !!

  • (From ½ bottlel) No formal notes, but I liked it a lot. Quite elegant. Ready to drink if decanted for a couple of hours, but will improve for several years.

  • 100% Tempranillo from the 25 ha Monte Real estate in Cenicero. The vines average 80 years old and are dry farmed and bush trained. The wine is aged 24-30 months in American oak cask and spends another year in bottle before release. Bright deep purple core with ruby highlights towards the rim and legs. Clean nose, developing medium intensity aromas of spice box, sweet tobacco, stewed plums, and dried black cherry with some earthiness and a hint of black tea. Dry on the palate, medium + acidity, medium bodied, medium ripe juicy tannins, medium + intensity of black and red fruit, forest floor, and wet tobacco leaves with a gamey savory flavor on the medium + finish. A good quality Rioja made in a slightly modern style, much more extracted and concentrated color and flavor wise but still unmistakably Rioja. This wine is more powerful and structured compared to Riojanas Viña Albina Reserva line which I feel is a more classic and elegant style. I believe this wine will peak in the next 4-6 years and continue to drink well for at least another decade. Aprox. $30 US retail.
