  • I was hoping, reading latest reviews, that this has progressed. Sadly same score as last time plus a point for better integration of the acidity . Fairly thin and little depth here, but all in all ok drink by now. I hope my cote roties from this vintage also improved somewhat.

Once beyond the lack of depth, I get caramel and some earth. For some reason it reminds me of Oregon Pinot. Weird…

  • This is pretty amazing stuff for the vintage and in fact better than the bottle tasted a few years ago. Yes, it is lighter in style, richness and impact when compared to other wines / vintages from Allemand. But all the hallmark flavor notes are there: red fruit, smoked meat, pepper and herbs. This really is Rhone in a burgundy disguise. What’s so impressive about this bottle is how well it finishes. Bravo. (91)

  • Producer, not vintage. No Chaillot or Reynard in 02 so those grapes went in here. A booming nose that was fairly stalky buthad so much more to offer - rich and deep red berries, bacon and bacon fat, green and black olives. The aromatics were incredible and trademark Allemand. Loads of complexity in this wine. Very good effort for 2002 and plenty of life left.

  • Pretty impressive bottle for the vintage. Pepper, dark fruits and herbs on the nose. Lean and bright palate with enough richness to make it interesting. Perfectly decent Syrah that should have cost $25 (not $75). This guy can make wine. (88)

  • A good effort for the vintage but clearly not up to the level of 2008, which right now is drinking fantastic. Here we get the typical Allemand elegance and velvet mouthfeel but it is on the thin side and lacking length. Enjoyable still and fun to follow over the course of a meal.

  • Didn't show quite as well as the bottle of '02 Allemand I had last month, but still a remarkable wine in the context of such a poor vintage. The aromatics are again very pretty - floral, peppery, and lightly fruited with fresh red berries and tarter green olive notes, though the palate here is rather lean and astringent, with a citric aspect to it from the sharp acidity and underripe flavours, finishing without much depth or length. Most of the pleasure here comes from the nose alone.

  • This lacks that magical nose that Allemand usually delivers, and is weak in the midpalate, hollow almost. This is reported to be de-classified Reynard/Chaillot, but still, it can't overcome the vintage. Peter B. returns to NY, L’Apicio.

  • Really liked this, and it's still holding up quite nicely. The aromatics are worth the price of admission - a classic Allemand scent, with savoury leathery, smoky and green olive notes mingling with higher toned floral notes and gentle red fruits beneath. The palate is on the lighter side though, not showing the same depth as the nose suggests, and feels a bit short on the finish by Allemand's usual standards, but even then this is a really elegant wine that's still drinking well.

  • Clear dark ruby core with brick red hue. On the nose it shows blackcurrant, cherry and dusty barnyard note. Tart and lean entry, light bodied and high in acidity, cherry, roast herb and subtle earthy note. The tannins is almost dissolve with rather short finishing.
Fruits gradually faded after 3+ hours and left only tart acidity. A good educational experience to understand more of this wet vintage than really enjoying the wine.

  • Beautiful example of a Cornas.

  • Needs some time to decant, gets better with the night.
Mushy and musky at first which blew off, then the cherries and minerals come out with very little tobacco.
    Smooth and short-medium finish

  • The lack of depth of flavor in this wine is becoming more apparent as is the out of balance acidity... finish these off ASAP. Obviously a tough vintage as this is easiest the weakest wine I've ever had from this fantastic producer.

  • Sadly, this wine's best days are behind it. Given the weak 2002 vintage, Allemand's single Cornas bottling that year performed quite well in its first few years, stretching its economical but lovely fruit just enough to counterbalance the higher acidity. Now, that fruit has evolved and receded to the point where the acidity dominates, and one is left with a rather lean, tart wine. This is my last of several bottles bought soon after release, fortunately at a very favorable price, so it's been an enjoyable look at its evolution over 7 or 8 years. Two bottles over the past year have been similar to this one, so I don't think it is bottle variation. Drink up if you have any, or do what I did: purposely opened this to drink a bit, and use the rest to braise a nice leg of lamb :)

  • improvement on my note of 2 years ago. nose is really the way cornas should be. high acidity and thinness didn't go away, but integrated a bit better.

  • Very light in color, tight and firm on the nose becoming floral with lots of sour, dark macerated cherry fruit on the nose, good minerality, little barrique influence. On the palate the wine is high in acidity, low in weight, and still quite firm/primary in nature. I think the wine needs a couple of years to hit its peak but it certainly lacks the depth of fruit to dramatically improve much...

  • A lot more syrah stink on the nose in this one and flavors are a bit lean. Let's see how it does with more air.

  • First of all I have to note that this wine has improved significantly in the six months I've had it at home. The first bottle (within a week of shipment) was tart and lean and left me very worried as I'd bought a case to share amongst friends - I had decanted the bottle into thirds to have on consecutive evenings and the subsequent evenings did not improve the wine. The second bottle, after three months at home, was smoother and much more palatable. The third bottle, last week, was delicious - yes, more of a sleek burgundy than a typical Cornas heavyweight - but I liked it!

  • Tart, underripe strawberry flavor that is very tasty in it's own way.

  • The fruit is good, but not really enough to handle the tannin and acidity. If I had any more I wouldn't wait. Cornas lite, but for what I paid. I'm content. g-

  • Remarkably light in color for a Cornas. Open for business on pop and pour. Definitely syrah on the nose, but in the mouth has the acidity and lightness--almost weightlessness--of a burg. I'm not much of a Rhone fan these days, finding most of them too clumsy and heavy, but this was wonderful.

  • This is the forth time for me. One bottle was faulty. The rest are just too tart. I love cornas and have to admit that 2002 is simply a below average vinatge. I hope I do not have too many of these left.!

  • Med body, very tart and lean, but still tasty. Reminds me of an '04 Burg.

  • Classic syrah spice on the nose and hint of olive. Deep red color. Not quite as rich as one might have liked but I think that's the vintage. Very nice w/ lamb burgers and some air
