2/2, vg cork. Medium garnet core, pale garnet/mahogany rim. Nose is rich, spicy, quite developed, wet earth, some underlying red and plum fruit. Medium/full bodied, quite full and rich but still bright with energy, spicy red fruits, spice, touch of game, vibrant acidity provides nice contrast, just a touch of unresolved tannin on the tail end of a decent length finish but this is actually in pretty good shape and should be fine for another 3 years or so if stored well.

The 2001 Domaine de la Vougeraie Vougeot 1er Cru Les Cras has an earthy and slightly rustic feel, in blind I would have probably guessed this was a Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru. A low pitched array of mixed berries, earthy gravel and smoke. Maturing with a fairly structured backbone. Drink now – 2030. (86/100)

I really can't figure this one out. It was thin and highly acidic and at first I was thinking it was flawed but realize it is just over the hill. I love this producer and this is the first of their wines I didn't like. Because I'm certain it may be my lack of sophistication I will give it 88.

Very old school nose and initial tasting. Did require an hour decant to open and begin to express the fruit. Balanced, smooth mouth feel, integrated tannins and good acidity. Not as complex as I would have hoped for but I believe this wine is starting to show its age and heading down the other side of the mountain. Drink over the next year or two maximum.

Clear, dark tawny red, slightly watery rim. Clean nose, dark cherry dominates, some more evolved notes - damp earth, mushroom. Full palate, fruits evident, tannins nicely integrated. Medium finish. Improved with time in the decanter. Drinking very nicely indeed.

Dark cherry in the glass, with a translucent hue when put to the light. Pleasant, subtle aromatics, some cherry interlaced with leather, barnyard earth and plum. Complex on the palate, dark fruits, acid and minerals in broad montage of classic burgundian flavors mixed with leather and mild oak, culminating in a slightly austere finish. This is a nice wine, that lacked real depth of fruit in the mid palate and finish to be a classic. Mature, and food friendly (it went well with grilled salmon), overall a deal at $45 for those that like classic burgundy.

Slightly cloudy in the glass but very old fashioned on he nose. Cherry and raspberry fruit at first, followed by leather, damp leaves and a lovely hint of warming spice. Palate matches up nicely and the finish is very generous.

2001 supposedly drinking well now ... and perhaps it is for other wines, though this isn't a great example. It's too tart for my taste, though there is fruit showing through. Not convinced that it will develop further.

Mid-red with a hint of orange. Mature nose of rich dark fruits. The palate is very sous bois - dark red fruitslinger after a brighter mid-palate. Coming towards the end of its life.

Medium garnet, pale garnet rim. Nose shows rich, ripe strawberry fruit, notes of plum and damp soil. This is quite full bodied on the palate, with sweet strawberries and plums on initial entry, rich and broad across the mid-palate if not overly deep, some vanilla and spice notes but the oak flavours are certainly well integrated, then a nice burst of acidity, some still firm but relatvely fine tannins and soil notes on the medium length finish. Pretty good, drinking reasonably well and not sure it is for the long haul.

Seemed a bit closed in the first glass and tart then the palate opened to reveal a good layer of cherry, spice and earth. Nice aroma of earth and forest floor with cinnamon.

Wine Education Service - Classic Red Burgundy (LSE): Not a lot of age for a 10-year-old. Quite attractive with farmyard development notes - mature. Lovely ripe fruit, tremendous complexity, chewy and exciting mid palate, disappointing finish.

Forward, open and delightfull from start. No decanting needed and the wine is well in its drinkign window. Underrated wine and good value. One to look out for. Drink now

Solid wine. Chambolle in character, but with more muscle. Popped and poured on night #1 - very tight, not giving much but seemed to have proper weight and character. Still tannic at this stage and will certainly improve with time. Good partner for boeuf bourguignon. On night #2 this was much more aromatically forthcoming - lovely spice, earth red fruits and the tannins had softened a bit. Still very dry on the finish. I liked this wine and think that it will need extended cellar time to be at its best.

Pongy unpleasant farmyard dominates nose and palate. Medium body, low tannin and medium acidity. red fruit. Short finish, straightforward, old.

Utter rubbish. Almost no character beyond thin astringency and harsh acid. Filth. Undrinkable filth. Horribly undrinkable filth.

Not flawed but partially oxidized with sulphuric taste after the first glass. Shame as the first few sips were fine.
