  • 2/2, vg cork.
Medium garnet core, pale garnet/mahogany rim. Nose is rich, spicy, quite developed, wet earth, some underlying red and plum fruit. Medium/full bodied, quite full and rich but still bright with energy, spicy red fruits, spice, touch of game, vibrant acidity provides nice contrast, just a touch of unresolved tannin on the tail end of a decent length finish but this is actually in pretty good shape and should be fine for another 3 years or so if stored well.

  • Pongy unpleasant farmyard dominates nose and palate. Medium body, low tannin and medium acidity. red fruit. Short finish, straightforward, old.

  • The 2001 Domaine de la Vougeraie Vougeot 1er Cru Les Cras has an earthy and slightly rustic feel, in blind I would have probably guessed this was a Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru. A low pitched array of mixed berries, earthy gravel and smoke. Maturing with a fairly structured backbone. Drink now – 2030. (86/100)

  • I really can't figure this one out. It was thin and highly acidic and at first I was thinking it was flawed but realize it is just over the hill. I love this producer and this is the first of their wines I didn't like. Because I'm certain it may be my lack of sophistication I will give it 88.

  • Very old school nose and initial tasting. Did require an hour decant to open and begin to express the fruit. Balanced, smooth mouth feel, integrated tannins and good acidity. Not as complex as I would have hoped for but I believe this wine is starting to show its age and heading down the other side of the mountain. Drink over the next year or two maximum.

(Vougeraie Vougeot Les Cras) Medium cherry colour. Red fruits on the nose. Good acidity and furry tannins. The red fruits on the palate are very persistent. Lovely finesse.
