Inky, dark garnet color; classy yet wild nose of hedgerow and pine; nice dark cherry fruit with licorice notes. Impressively persistent for a 12 year old Bourgogne (far superior to another one they bottled that year and labeled “Tradition”).

I still love pouring this blind for “the cognoscenti” and another genius called this “gran cru”. Remains “big” with rich fruit, woodsmoke, graphite and violets; hints of root vegetable yet floral and fruit richness abound. With air gets more rustic and gamey. No one guessed a “mere generic bourgogne”.

This wine continues to unfurl and is now displaying huge dark cherry fruit and opulence. Very easy and balanced could perhaps be a touch soft for long term holding. But it is a very “entry level” bottling of blended holdings, excellent as it is.

The surprising power noted in prior bottles has receded to unveil a rich and balanced wine. Still slightly brooding, dark fruit and a truly substantial lingering finish.

Again, this was opened the day before and still going strong. Seemed a bit blunt and still brooding; deep cherry and a good bit of heft here for what it is.

Requires a few hours of decanting to unfurl the layers and flavors. Sharp and spicy aromas that carry through on the palate. Baked cherry, damp earth/mushroom, hints of leather...or maybe that's tobacco. Delicacy and tenacious on the finish. Really lovely and drinking well now, though it has a few more years to evolve.

A shockingly good little wine! Bright magenta colored; dusty rich cherry fruit, lots of pure, raw red fruit extract. Needs time. Showed this way despite having been opened 24 hours prior! (Did this due to last experience of wine opening up and developing nicer qualities over a 3 day period). This bottling seems oddly hard to find. Local retailer had brought in the "Tradition" bottling. Something must have warranted them bottling a "Reserve" version and I'd agree, it is special!

Tasted this with Xavier 94. His notes are spot on with exception of not noting that we tasted this on its third day open (which is why I'd brought it for the "freak out" impact). First day open the acids were pretty screechy and fruit very raw. Pretty remarkable for a "simple" bourgogne, as in not at all simple. Much better than a "Tradition" bottling tried recently.

Powerful aromas of brooding dark cherry, plum, smoky herbs and whiffs of tabacco dust come through with bits of black pepper and lavender. This is brooding but the material present suggests a long life. Ripe, powerful, rich but structured and not overwhelming. This would be interesting to revisit in 5 or even 10 years out...

Still fresh, barely secondary, slightly confected sweetness with bright red cherry and graphite notes.
