Medium gold, mature. Rich nose of boiled sweets, orange, vanilla, honey. High acidity, low alcohol, orange, honey, toast, medium length. Very interesting and unique wine. Complex mix of oxidative flavour, fruit and freshness. Like an old style Rioja with high acidity. Very good.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Sun Wah BBQ - Chicago, IL): Sensational bottle yet again. The intensity of the salinity here is really something...and I love salty wines! Along with the ocean-like flavor, this was brimming with tropical fruits. Namely, peaches, pineapple, and mango. My only gripe with this bottle is that I have a hard time finding some to buy.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): "This is just really awful stuff. It's like someone poured saltwater into your Raveneau. Why would you bother drinking that? Worse, it's like a madeira without the extra alcohol and all those rich caramel notes. What's the point? Let me help you with that bottle; yes, I'll take care of that for you... [yoink]." Intense apple cider and pineapple notes on the nose with the same intensity of the palate. So much saline, so much concentration, so much heft. But it all floats on ok...

Kaleidoscopic nose; sherry, honey, ocean spray, mint lemonade, rubber, machine shop, quite bizarre. Despite this, the palate is a bit of a letdown with somewhat low acidity, very light texture, toothpaste, peach. Hard to interpret though no shortage of intrigue.

Singular wine right here: combines lush, tropical fruit, a granular, crunchy mouthfeel, intense minerality and salinity, and a taught acidic spine. Definitely funky enough that I wouldn't want to drink this all the time, but the precision and finesse are there in spades.

July 4th Wines (My Place): I liked this a great deal. Fascinating nose of lime, flint, and crushed rocks. The palate was a trip...razor sharp acidity, and a kaleidoscope of lush, but cool fruit. This has some oceanic scents to it too...something like a aged white burgundy.

Somehow this may be even more profound than the red. It starts out with a sulfury funk that blows off after a few minutes but that doesn't get in the way of making this an absolute stunner from the first sip to the last. If you'd blinded me on this I would have been guessing Montrachet. It has that same substantial presence combining thick, densely concentrated fruit with a fresh minerality reminiscent of chalk and salty sea breezes, and an acidity that gives it a precise, finely etched articulation. This is rich and expansive but totally fresh and vivacious.

This comment is for the WHITE wine made of MALVASIA de Colares (there is also a red made of Ramisco under the same brand). Tasted in London, portuguese embassy, "50 great portuguese wines". In Colares vines are planted without roodstock, it's a phylloxera free area. The nose seems a little bit oxidized but that the style of this wine: cooked apple, brown tea, hint of honey, citrusy in the same time. Very mineral in the mouth, almost salty, very dry with high acidity. Good length. It's not a fashion wine but it has personnality and it's well-made. I like this!

Strange pink grapefruit fun-dip nose. Palate seems washed out without any of the interest or intensity the last bottle showed.
