Last bottle. Decanted an hour, Zalto universal. Still very dark. Fabulous nose where the elderberries and fir needles seem to have melted into a dark fragrance with smoke and dark berries and perhaps hints of bread crust and chocolate. Smooth and harmonious and lovely in the mouth, taking om asparagus, horse radish, smoky meat and lemon juice easily. When cool (say, 15 degrees) the acidity is not prominent, and the tannins are fine-grained with this porousness. Stunningly good, aging beautifully but far from old, still showing a great deal of freshness.

Clear, dark violet, medium legs. Menthol and some earth at first, then dark fruit, herbs and some oak. Reminded me of a Bordeaux on the nose. Acid, light body, light tannins, not particularly complex in the mouth. I like the stile, the wine and the producer, but this one is unfortunately past peak.

Drunk out of Zalto Universal glasses, no decanting. Immediately pleasing and full of loads of fresh fruit of a dark sort (still strong elements of elderberries), and an intriguing sourness, yet also showing what appears to be complete maturity in the sense that it doesn't need air to unfold nor seems to have much in reserve. Tannic finish. Lovely wine.

This is really good! Dense, saturated but in a balanced and non-oaked way showing aromas of elderberries and other dark fruits together with dust and very agreeable aged aromas. A lovely wine which, given the acidity level, seens to be ageing (or rather changeing) faster than I would have thought.

Seems to have aged a bit. Marvellous nose showing cherries, elderberries, pine needles, dust, vanilla (not of oak, but vanille des Îles Bourbon), something sweet and wonderful. Dense in the mouth, nice texture, the acidity seems less prominent. A Beauty.

Extremely dark and young looking, even blueish. Interesting complex nose with berries, dust, floral elements and a lovely warm aroma in the vicinity of fried fish (!). Very clean bright fruit and aromatically complex, ending on a very dry note. Tannins only appear after some time and with the dregs. Original and interesting.
Four days later, a glass was poured from the recorked half-bottle: Further development. The rest put in the fridge.
A week after the first taste: It is even better than at first, showing berries and fir needles in the nose, and great structure with a savoury velvety feel and cutting acidity. This will keep for a long time I am sure, but I really like now.

It delivers such intense aromas on the nose: cranberry, graphite, smoke, tart cherry and then a linear, intensely driven palate. I find it just stunning for a red wine, I am sure its just a bit to tart for most. But hey, happy father's day to me!

Robe violine intense.

Simply put, I thought this was sensational. Dark purple color, pronounced fruit driven aromatics, and then a linear, tense palate. On taster commented "its too compacted for me on the palate" but then later remarked "really opens up with food, and makes the food taste better." It was great with food, but it was also great period.

A private lunch (Osteria Francescana ***, Modena, Italy): Fermented and aged for 8 months in amphorae, finished with 3 months on oak. Rich cherry-red colour; deep nose, sour cherries, spice, minerals; the palate is very young and still a bit tight and edgy but relatively low on tannin, attractive and silky with its ripe but fresh acidity, aromatic, distinctive; very good length.

nose of red cherry, and minerals; on the palate still hard, underripe tannins as well as an almost mouth-searing acidity that makes the long finish seem tart. the wine needs at least 5 years of additional cellaring. So the 89 are rating anticipated potential not current pleasure.

Like the Granato but darker, harder edged too with and "amphora" like tannin feel to the back of the palate. But still elegant with great integration.

Great drinkability, juicy with good fruit. Best straight from the bottle, after a few days it turned quite uninteresting.
