A strong showing - maybe too strong. Or maybe I should have let this one sit in the bottle a little longer. Dark, inky and intense, with coffee overtones and lots of black fruit. Gave it lots of air, but it never came together as epically as it promised.

Good bottle of wine. Attack is dark fruit, currant but quickly progresses to bright cherry. A bit guilty of being fruit forward but with a rustic suede finish, a hint of old world. Medium plus acidity so should be age worthy.

Dark crimson, surprisingly reticent nose of black cherry, stewed plums, clove and vanilla bean, tart on the attack followed by layered spicy black and red fruits, finish is straightforward with punchy fruit, heat, teethy tannins and medicinal notes

hmmm... I don't agree with very much in the TNs below other than low extraction, no new oak, rustic, savory, and high acidity. I wasn't impressed though in all fairness am not sure how well suited barbera is to this type of more "traditional" winemaking. For me this is a slightly muddled wine that could use more fruit intensity... ok balance (it's a bit light in the middle for the high acidity), short length, good intensity and complexity... some finesse, a fine texture, ok expression of place... not the clearest expression of barbera to me. For me a merely "good" bottle of wine in a style I don't think a lot of people would care for.

Last guy got it on the money. Seems old world on the nose with a tar and smokiness seeming like Slovenian barrels, but comes off big and fruit-forward on the palate. Quite delicious but seems like it is for early consumption. Save the Falletto for down the road.

Nice rustic nose that readied you for old world flavors, however the fruit here is very New world. Enjoyable, but a touch hollow in the midpalate. Nice value for an Italian red.

Very youthful and a bit tight. This Barbera will benefit from a few more years in bottle. Very fresh at the moment with fine tannin. Will need food and will be much better than on its own.

This is awesome. Elegant pure fruit, leather, flowers. But it teases you with more. Mouth: Bright vegetal characters cross between cherry and tomato. Poster child for keeping new oak out and extraction at a minimum.

This was a tasty, easy to drink wine and my first Giacosa. The nose showed mostly cherry with a little tar and earth. It was quite round and fruity on the palate without being overly sweet. Some nice earthiness along with a little tannin and some oak notes. Decent finish and acidity. Very easy to drink and I think it will still evolve a bit in another year or so.

:-D 258 NOK. Fantastisk vin

A light colored wine with a translucent crimson core and light meniscus. Very aromatic on the nose with an explosion of cherries, raspberries, licorice, flowers, cloves, and black pepper. An intense set of flavors on the palate with sour cherries, raspberries on the entry with very marked acidity on the mid-palate as well as a drop of salinity. The finish is of moderate length showing a savory character with hints of roasted meat juice, licorice, menthol, sweet spices, and well integrated tannins. A mid bodied wine that is “dolce e salato” great sweet red fruits, fresh acidity, however it is a bit thin and light.

Fresh, fleshy and round barbera, pure old school and so enjoyable. Lots of fresh red frutis on the nose. On the palate it is heavier than we expected but very much on the fruit and drinks evry nicely at the moment. Not sure how this evolves from here but a solid wine nonetheless. 90 drink now

Really liked this barbera. More refined, balanced and silky then you typically find with dried flowers, cherry, menthol, and tar. Good lift in the mid-palate and a clean finish. This is a great entry point to the house style of Bruno Giacosa. I had a similar experience with a G. Conterno barbera a few months back. Would love to see how this wine evolves over the next few years.

The nose showed pretty red berries, hints of herbs and grasses yet somehow subdued. On the palate, it was soft and balanced with great textures, red berries and menthol, as the fruit turned tart. The finish showed fresh cherry. This was an elegant and complete wine, yet nothing stood out to me.

Much more poised than in earlier days. Still plenty of fruit and structure to stand up to Bolgnese.

Dark dark Crimson. Somewhat earthy, gamey nose leads to bright cherry fruit flavors. Easy to enjoy for what it is.

Beautiful, jammy, pure and balanced, with plenty of structure to bode well as this gets some more age in the bottle.
