  • Online Blind Tasting #1 (Online): *** brief notes from online blind tasting ***
Note is based on a tasting sip in the morning on day one, 5cl on the evening and 0,1l filled in a bottle and sealed with argon gas on the evening of day two.
    Glass: Zalto Universal
Clear, medium golden color. Medium+ intense, youthful nose with honey, spices, some vegetable notes, lots of yellow fruit, flowers, salt. Unfortunately drunk a bit too cold.
Dry, maybe with some tiny bit of residual sugar. Well integrated medium acidity, rich and complex aromas which covers the mouth for quite a while. Some nice bitter notes, yellow fruit, white pepper. Long finish. Very good Silvaner! 93. Very good PQR!

  • Best Silvaner i ever had. I really like the earthiness of a Silvaner, but this wine embeds earthy characters into a glorious fruit, very subtle fruit sweetness and a nicely integrated acidity in the background. Perfect food wine - I nominate the wine for the best supporting role in a dinner! We had the wine with a pan fried branzino and zucchini sauce. Lovely match. Would also be the high end white asparagus wine.

  • Fruit, véél fruit, mineralen, vol en rijp, zalig bij het patrijsje, dat ik soldaat maakte. Kan nog jaren mee naar mijn inschatting.

Lots of fruits, full and ripe, perfect combination with the partridge I ate. Will have many years to go to my estimation.... Delicious!

  • Consistent with my last notes. Great Silvaner. Reminds me somehow of a very good Wachau GV Smaragd. Has years ahead.

  • Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
    Drunk over a week.
Clear, pale golden color. Medium intense, youthful nose with yellow fruit, flowers, salt. Needs to be drunk at 12-14 degree to enjoy the real beauty of the scents.
Dry, maybe with some tiny bit of residual sugar. Well integrated medium acidity, rich and complex aromas which covers the mouth for quite a while. Long finish. Still youthful at the moment and does not vanish even after days in the open bottle so it has certainly years ahear and will continue to develop. Very good Silvaner!

  • A brutally good Silvaner, the 2011 Feuervogel delivers a razor sharp and almost crystalline acidity combined with flowers and a spiciness. This combination is amazing and brings out the very best sides of this varietal. Only a genius could produce this type of wine. The palate is rich, creamy and adds a brilliant structure to the overall impression. The length on the finish just keeps going on and on. Not perhaps, but certainly the best Silvaner I have ever tasted. The Feuervogel totally rocks any boat she sits in!

  • Youthful and ripe aromas of pear popsicle, exotic fruits and mineral. The taste prefectly balances freshness vs flavour and ripe extract, without the 13% alcohol ever being a problem. Our only objection at the moment is that we still get these young green-aromatic pear notes, and we look forward to losing them in another year or two. The wine proves itself as an excellent food companion, tonight with a somewhat unconventional paella (half way to risotto).

  • Absolutely magnificent tonight. Served to slowly oven baked loin of cod together with fresh North Sea shrimp, dill and seared butter. To this some steam boiled green asparagus with homemade sauce Hollandaise. The wine was absolutely stunning and offered up razor sharp tones of citrus, but also lychee and tangerines. The palate is perfectly balanced and adds viscosity and a nice 'body' to the overall experience. The length on the finish lasts some 45 seconds and makes this effort extra worth remembering. A true masterpiece!

  • This is a brilliant wine from this star producer. The nose displays a vivid array of citrus tones adjoined by exotice fruits and subtle lychee. The palate provides a creamy texture and adds very nicely to the positive overall impression. This effort deserves to be served to food and is actually best paired to Riesling-friendly dishes. The best Silvaner in the world?

  • A totally stunning wine which is very hard to describe, the 2011 Feuervogel delivers the flowery nose of a Viognier combined with exotic fruits like mango, papaya and tangerines from a Chardonnay. But then the perfect and close to brilliant acidity from a Riesling is added alongside a crisp and clean-cut minerality. The end result is a Silvaner which could only originate from the hands of star producer like Keller. This wine has an incredible complexity but also the light subtleness and sheer elegance so typical for this producer. A true masterpiece and a wine you should not miss if you care for either Keller or the "reborn" viticultural area of Rheinhessen! Is this perhaps the best Silvaner made?

  • This is a terrific Sylvaner (an autochthonous grape variety - you will find it in German speaking areas). Straigt, pure, extraodinary high level of minerality of pure limestone. The nose reminds me on dried herbs, wet stones, lemons zests, white currants, tulips and white flowers. On the palate pure minerality, chalky - totally refreshing. A perfect acitidy is underlining the great richenss of this wine. After this curtain of pure minerality you'll find some iced, exotic fruits, (forest) moss and white currants. Graceful length.

  • An absolutely stunning effort, the 2011 Feuervogel combines the complexity of a good Chardonnay with the purity of a good dry Riesling. The nose expresses lychee, lemon zest, lime and other exotic fruits combined with an abundance of deep minerals. The palate is superbly integrated and balanced but the acidity reminds me of Keller's dry Rieslings. This wine breaks the limit for what a Silvaner can actually be. Old vines, luxury oak with a Burgundian heritage combined with Keller's magic fingers all help to make this a magic experience. I can certainly promise there is NO other Silvaner providing an experience like this. Bravo!

(Day 3: After sealing with Argon gas and putting in the fridge for a few days, the wine is singing from the glass. Apricots and lychee is filling the nostrils while the palate is attacked by perfect integration and a lovely acidity. This is a super effort!)
