This nose takes a while to come online and at first it’s hard to see much beyond tight cherry with some moody earth influence. Starts to unwind and offer up great spice in addition to more developed red and black berry fruit. A good pairing with the 1991 DRC Grands Echezeaux for comparative purposes but this might be a flicker more advanced than I’d hope for, although Engel seems to have a special way of showing wonderfully even out of more advanced bottles. Texturally special too with a tingling sort of grip about the palate. Have a few more of these and don’t think I’ll wait too long. I’d also like to have one in isolation or maybe with other Engels to get a better look at it outside of a massive lineup. 93 - 94

00977/2200. Dark profile, opening up to Vosne sweetness that is quintessential of good GE. Sweet fruit, all the spice, so lifted yet toned. Great broadness and energy. 94

Don't recall exact date.. October, 2014 ish. sort of drank by accident. Was a lovely wine but did not seem worth the steep $316 tariff. Recall it being light but not dilute.

La Paulée de Los Angeles Gala Dinner (The Fairmont - Santa Monica CA): Small glass. Layered and complex with plenty of tasty red berries still front-and-center even while fully mature. Near brilliant. A rare treat.

DOA. Storage is at fault rather than the producer - this should have been spectacular.
