Charming Margaux, with nice cask and tobacco nose, followed by a palate blending mature red fruit, caramel, fine leather, licorice and some herbal aromas. Medium bodied, this wine lacks intensity and complexity to convince in such a good vintage.

Pleasant scent of forest floor, oak and cigar box. Very very smooth mouth feel lasting quite a while. Very good wine at peak I wou ld say. Onboard Queen Elizabeth with duck.

Bought in 2005 - thought I might have waited too long but there’s still plenty of interest left. Only the lightest of sediment remained after decanting. Clear, mid weight colour, still quite youthful. Nose is classic left bank at c20 years. Palate still has a little fruit but also the earthy and woody flavours one might expect. Very enjoyable and plenty of stuffing to see it do quite well on day two as well.

The overall appellation in Margaux lagged behind its northerly neighbors in 1996, and this is evident here. The color is bright medium ruby. The nose (albeit more open than two years ago) is shy, reticent, and mostly primary, with red fruits mixing with leafy tobacco, musk, and dried flowers. Lacking the concentration and punch of more recent Cantenac Brown vintages, but it's laid-back demeanor still lends this to a nice food wine. Good acidity and freshness. Tannins are distant and soft. Medium length finish. Drink now.

Medium depth in color with a clear brown rim. Light on the nose with aromas of wet wood and forest floor with some coffee in the background. Medium body, soft, tannin free, but still healthy and not overtaken by oxidation. This was a healthy bottle - nice.

Lovely old Bordeaux. Touch of amber, good mid deep red. Much younger than I'd have thought. Nose has red fruit and cedar, dusty, sweet red fruits. Palate shows dark plum and cassis with cedar, smoke and smoky roast meats. Finishes long and in balance. Good wine. Drink now. 17/20

Drank this wine today at Mu Liang Zai to celebrate my dad's birthday. This wine was drank side by side with the 1996 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley.
Colour is a fading purplish red. On the nose the familiar aromatic Margaux nose stands out, with red fruits and mature oak with a touch of vanilla. On the palate the delivery is silky and smooth, with elegance and a touch of class.
Acidity still stands out for this wine, tipping the wine towards a sourish finish. The fruit, alcohol and structure still holding out well, but lacks balance due to the acidity present.
An outstanding performance for a wine at 18 years of age.

Fargen er mørk rød med rosa kant. Solbær, solbærblader, litt kaffe og vanilje på nesen. Solbær, bjørnebær, polkagriser og litt cedertre. Bra syre, snerper bra og medium kompleksitet.

The vice-like tannins this had last year have at last died down, but it's not a particularly good wine. Quite rich, with blackberry, chocolate and some elegance towards mid-palate, but no complexity, no finish, no class. The archetypal boring wine, which doesn't really hit the taste buds. Drinkable, but probably better to sell any remaining.

nice full bodied mouthfeel and structure; fairly deep, complex palate with a lacking finish. Will probably like more in the winter but makes an awesome pairing

Nose is rich and grapey along with purple berry aromas: Nose is expressive and comes across as youthful. Medium-full bodied on the palate: some Bdx. funk, with blackberry fruit and pencil lead mineral; good concentration of fruit; 13% alc. not noticeable; decent acidity; integrated tannin. Probably the most "modern" tasting wine of the night for me. Drinking well now, but will almost certainly be better in a few years.

Light red dark brown color with orange brown rim. Classic Margaux leathery earthy aroma with licorice. Round silky tannins, full bodied, balanced with long heavy after taste. At it's peak or a bit beyond. Enjoy now.

Michael Schuster Wine Course w2. Still quite reddish purple. Great rich mouthfilling texture with lovely soft integrated tannins. Massive aroma of pure cassis with a hint of earth and cedar. Still more rich cassis on the palate with flavours that keep returning throughout the long finish.

Very evolved all leather and cigar, not much fruit remaining. Drying out, won't last much longer. Structure is soft now. Drink up.

Mørke bær og lakris på nesen. Solbær, lær, cedertre og litt paprika på smak. Virker noe uforløst, ikke helt optimal. Bra lengde.
