What a great find and QPR. At 10 years old this bottle is perfect. Nose of black fruit, spice, meats and Tabacco. Pallet of cured meat, minor funk, acid and more dark fruit. Wish I had more!

Dinner with Jane and Mitch at Iron Skillet on the north fork of Long Island wine country. Popped, then waited 60 minutes to drink. A little tang, that would fade. Smooth, but I didn't think this wine was anything special. One of the few times (if ever) I've been disappointed with a Quivet. We had half a bottle left.
Nose of tobacco, black pepper, foresty pine, tar, tart cherries, molasses, and brown sugar. On the palate bright mid range fruit full of tart sparkling tannin. More woodsy green. Full and thick in the mouth without any cloying quality. Finishes with well balanced acidity and lingering velvety fruit.

Drank after a 4 hour decant, with cheese & cracker appetizer and company. Very enjoyable Syrah, well balanced, good fruit taste, with a bite at the finish.

One year anniversary since our previous bottle. Pure accident, selected this bottle from my cellar, and with the first sip noticed my last review from a year ago. Decanted for two hours before dinner. The wine tastes about the same with a bit more citrus and fruit nose, still soft and pleasant. Finish starts in the front of the tongue and long citrus in the back of the tongue.

What great weight with a silky wave of fine tannins. Menthol undertones mixed with blue fruits all the way through the long finish. The nose tells the story and stays very true. Very nice with just the right amount of class. We'll done.

Awesome wine. Popped and poured, consumed all but one glass the first night. The wine opened nicely over about three hours. The second night it was still very good but had not improved. It was also a little chillier than it should have been and I didn't have the patience to let it warm to room temp.

Popped and poured, drank over 2 nights. Evocative nose, with savory fruit notes complemented by a waxy note. Unique. On the palate, bright, savory fruit and smoked meat dominate. Smooth, finishes well. Really enjoyed this.

After a conversation, headed down tothe cellar and pulled this. Splash decant and back into bottle. Returned 8 hrs later to find an intoxicating aroma in the cellar.
Still not fully ready if PnP, but with plenty of air, this is singing.

We're big fans of the Quivet Cellars Hulda Block Las Madres Syrah, this one has a slight fruity and citrus punch but just as smooth and pleasant. Aerated for an hour in the bottle, then decanted before dinner for an hour. Light, pleasant nose. Depends on personal taste whether to drink now or cellar another year.

Risky move pulling this one so young. 30 minutes in the glass and it was drinking ok, 60 minutes open it was drinking just fine. I'm sure in a couple years I'll throw a few more points on this, just needs the time in bottle but the stuffing is there for a really tasty syrah. Definitely recommend.

Monday afternoon with Mike Smith (Envy Cellars, Calistoga): Not yet released. Bottled just last week. Mike only made one barrel of this wine. A measely 24 cases. Translucent ruby purple color that just glows when swirled. The nose is savory showing blueberry, blackberry, black pepper and baking spice. The fruit was a bit primary which was not unexpected. Real soft mouthfeel with accompanying pepper and smooth tannins on the finish.

A bit harsh initially--may be too young to drink today. Big fruit bomb with more blueberry undertones than needed. Dry finish

Well balanced Northern Rhone style Syrah at a great price. Nice value, super low production, really impressed with Mike's wines.

Grabbed by accident. 4 hour decant really got this going. Next bottle in 4 years.
