Not as fresh a bottle as a few weeks ago. Farther developed and with a fatiguing nose that is overbearingly savory. Saffron. Palate is much better, but still not as bright and weightless as the other bottle. (Airline suitcased this five thousand miles, but two weeks before opening, maybe that messed it up? Red was fine.)

Brilliant example of this, fresh, bright clean. High mineral cuts rich yellow fruit. Weighty and good staying power. Half preferred this and half preferred the ’04 Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet alongside, which was comparatively a little heavier but less clean cut as this.

Consistent with my November note. Another clean bottle. Has serious weight and power with a notable mineral and acid streak that keeps it fresh and tied together. Floral, spice, fairly ripe yellow fruit.

Colour is a little darker than you'd hope to see, but on first sniff this was perfect and had a booming nose of white florals, medium ripe white and yellow orchard fruit, and terrific wood and vanilla spice. Smells beautiful but the palate really delivers in terms of weight, density, and power. Mouthful of rich flavour with excellent white spice detail. Clean and pure but with a decided heft behind it. Very happy with this. 93 - 94.

My Birthday Weekend; 10/23/2020-10/25/2020 (Chicagoland IL): Popped-and-poured. Floral start with broad array of apple aromas, followed by similar flavors with very good depth, dancing textures and enough ripeness. Wine opened and expanded with more time in glass, really showing intense Grand Cru density after open 30-45 minutes. Best when finished at the 3-hour mark. I haven’t had this since visiting Niellon in 2013, shortly before this wine was released. It was the last wine I tasted that week in Burgundy; it was memorable then, and lived up to those memories tonight.
No score for this bottle as I have no faith that what was experienced today will be the same for others... the professionals all quite liked this wine when it was young and fresh, but 8 years in it has its flaws coming to the fore more than its strengths. Pleasant at first despite the concerning darkish amber tone, this was tasty and had good grip, if not much in the way of terrior character. Had it stayed at that level, I would give it a 93 but it didn't - it became blowsy and fat, losing whatever was left of its grand cru character. Shame.

belated bday dinner for ESTEELE90 (Kali Restaurant, Los Angeles, CA): notes of orange peel and some tropical fruit, some oily and oaky richness -- a bit fat. does have prominent acidity that emerges more with time. Seems a bit unbalanced right now but perhaps will gain more focus with further age. 89-90 pts

Heritage Blind Tasting in Vegas (Jean-Georges Restaurant, Aria Hotel Las Vegas): Round, lots of fine oak showing, a bit of baby fat, Burgundy "melon" notes with a little reduction or straw basket, but also a touch of cream, a touch of tropical fruits, slightly elevated alcohol, good acidity, this is showing like a killer Cali Chard, which I though it was! But the balance was good, too comlex, and alcohol a bit low for that. Total opposite of the Drouhin Batard '08! Heritage Blind Tasting in Vegas--Blind line-up.

Day Five in Burgundy: Bonneau du Martray, Clos de Tart, Faiveley, Niellon (Cote d'Or): Tasting at domaine. White flowers, spice hints, some new oak spice, candied fruit, peach, ripe apple, tropical hints. Incredible elegance. Lots of concentration and textures. 93-95 point potential. wow. My last wine at my last visit for this trip. Nice way to close.

Quite powerful and fragrant but palate wise a bit short. Decent qpr for a chevalier but nothing that overwhelmed me.
