  • Drinking great right now! Probably has a few good years left.

  • Last of these. Compared to 7 years ago this one seems like it is darker, more dense. Black cherry with lighter red cherry and bing cherry on the front. Herbal quality, red fruited herbal finish. Definitely darker than the last bottle. Also quite enjoyable. Could hold another 5 years but now is definitely the time to start drinking on these if you have a few of them.

  • First btl flawed, this btl was at least drinkable, nothing special here, thin, too acidic,
feckless really for such a expensive btl.
Let's call it past prime..as I have this wine in its prime!

  • I will rate NR as to not skew the numbers. I would really like to keep some of these around, but I keep drinking them!! What a perfectly complex Sangio with a hint of Cab to give it just the right amount of complexity. This wine continues to fetch 90's and 91's, and for what reason I have no idea as it should fetch mid-90's. Very aromatic out of the glass, and very complex on the palate -- continues to evolve. I only have one of these left and, thank goodness it's somewhere other than in the house! Beautiful wine.

  • A very well done Sangiovese. I held this one back a year before starting to consume.....didn't do the same with the 2011 unfortunately but it gave me a chance to compare them side by side. This wine poured a little lighter in the glass than the 2011 did. Still that very nice dark "dirty" ruby red. The nose was not very expressive in the 2010 but there was bing cherry, raspberry present. The front of this wine was softer and less acidic than the 2011 for sure, which gave some time for the cherry and raspberry to just dance on the tongue. The mid-palate was where a caramel or cinnamon and some earthiness kind of crept in, and the wine turned rather dark at this point. I swear I almost caught a note of tobacco on the finish. Very elegant in the finish and although still a bit acidic, I expect this to continue to improve with another 2-3 years of cellaring. Nice wine, like it more than the 2011 for sure, but the 2011 in another year will probably be right on par with this one as it seems like this is a very consistent wine. I think that this has the definite possibility to age another 10 years. Done by 2024.

  • Another big rich Gargiulo super Tuscan. Full bodied with lots of dark fruit on the nose, blackberry a on the palate. Could have been Even better with some added aging. Worked great with BBQ ribs

  • A very nice wine. Served as the first of two tonight. This is a dense yet nicely acidic and full bodied in the middle and finish. Oakville Sangiovese. Nice. Didn't hold a candle to the 97 Frescobaldi Brunello that was served after it, but it is still an excellent "appetizer" wine that can go well with just about any appetizer.

  • Opened 1 week after receiving. Wonderful nose of dark fruits (black berry, black cherry). Wonderful balance, medium to full bodied with approachable tannins, good acid and firm tannins, long finish. It continued to change in the glass. A great Californian Super Tuscan it is different from the 2009 but just as good!

  • Excellent American sangiovese. Less dense than Gargiulo's cabernets, as expected, and refreshing. The fruit needs to settle down a bit, which should happen with time. A terrific spring-time red.

  • This is a FULL BODIED Sangiovese! What a wonderful offering from Gargiulo. This is a dark, deep, intense Sangiovese that has a wonderfully complex character. The wine was uncorked to a medium red stain with a bit of purple. Less than 1mm cork bleed. The wine was decanted for about 30-40 minutes, first through a Vinturi and then into a decanter. Wine poured rather translucent with a garnet color, but appeared to be rather typical for a Sangiovese. THOUGHT this one was going to be medium bodied until.....well, the nose was all deep black cherry and fig. The entry is consistent with black cherry, a hint of blackberry, ripe fig, with a robust character. The mid-palate is consistent with all dark red fruit, a hint of leather, turning spicy on the finish with white pepper, and a rather soft velvety non-tannic finish. The longer this one sat (at the conclusion of two hours) there was a dry component that sort of mimicked a cedar element. This wine continued to develop and every sip was a bit different, multilayered. Fantastic. I can't imagine what the other 5 bottles are going to have in store, but this is one that can certainly lay down another 7-10 years.
