  • Dark red at the core, fading to the edges. Slightly harsh and plummy on the nose. Bright and precise on the palate, but harsh, cherries and spice. Heat shows through. Sharp tannins, harsh acidity. Out of balance at this point. Finishes short and plummy. Well past peak. I have always liked the Tom Eddy cabs and they do age well. This one was just past the drinking window. Should have drunk it 3 years ago.

  • Double decanted two hours before service. Great tertiary flavors. Would be best with food at this point. Drink up within the next two years.

  • Decanted two hours before service. Medium red with some browning. Good flavors of red fruits with medium tannins. There's some volatile acidity that's a bit off-putting. Fully mature. Drink up.

  • Tried this after being impressed by the 02'. Opened, decanted and drank over 3 days. This bottle was likely past its prime. Very light tannins. Cherries on the palate. It did open up over time, but not as much as the 02'.

  • Deep garnet in color. Little or no change in color at the rim. Nose of dark fruit, casis and toast. Fruit is present but seems to be backing off. Tannins are present but not overwhelming. Time to drink 'em if you got 'em.

  • I wish I could find more Cabernet that tasted like this. Wonderful wine with a core of deep dark fruit and cassis accented by fresh minty and herbal notes and the start of developed leathery flavours. There's a sense of restrained power here with fantastic balance and really good acidity that keeps the flavours fresh and precise. Delicious.

  • Absolutely delightful. Most of my previous note still applies. Despite a dry cork that crumbled into the bottle, the wine was in fantastic shape. No bitterness on the end and a finish that lasted and lasted and lasted.

  • Drinking very nicely, thank you. Dark black fruit profile, touch of French oak, some tobacco and cocoa round out the palate. Solid finish. Should hold up for at least a few more years, but enjoyable now.

  • 93+ What a beautiful wine. This wine has some pretty good purplish maroon color which fades to a pale pink at the edges. Aroma is full of red raspberries, violets/lillies, grape fruitsnacks, plum, and touch of vanilla. A gorgeous, velvety mouthfeel with refined tannins...wonderfully aged. You can taste raspberries, a little cherry, and some chocolate. My words can't do it justice. On the downside, the wine leaves a little bit of a sour aftertaste and the finish wasn't as long as I had hoped.

if anyone knows anything about this producer, i hope you will fill in the giant gaps in my knowledge. i know i bought this, and a couple of 97's, on my first trip to napa at dean and delucca in 1999. it's possible that i bought them on the recommendation of pax. both RMP and WS rated vintages up to 95, but since then, nada.

this is part of my ongoing investigation of the 96 vintage in california.

not decanted. the wine is still quite purple in color with some fading on the rim. you couldn't stick your nose in this and not guess napa cab. classic. the fruit has given way to secondary developmental nuances, but the finish is a little short. i don't think the wine is finished giving it up, but i can't really see it getting any better; the complexity is not that great. it's subtle, yet pleasing on the mid palate. medium body. sometimes i drink wines that i would love to have the data input from others. this is one of those wines because i don't have any reference point except for my own limited experience with 10 year old cabs. i do like it, and i'm going to recommend it. i have one more bottle, which i think i will open with the local geeks, and get their opinion.
