Opened the bottle and had a little sip just to verify it had not yet turned bad. Even though the nose was still "closed", the taste already revealed a tender softness and complexity, with a slight acid undertone. Certainly still OK, could not wait to see how this developed after a couple of hours in the decanter! After a couple of hours in the decanter the slight acid undertone had totally vanished, making place for a divine mixture of dried fruits, smoke, forest mushrooms, vanilla, few herbs and pepper - all very subtle. Pitch dark color, with the rim only slightly brownish after all these years.

Eye: bright garnet colour. Tasted on opening and noticed similar funky smell and mineral taste. Filtered and decanted for 90 minutes before serving. Nose: Opened up very nicely with aroma of berries, vanilla, smoke, herbs. Palate: taste also improved. Good tannins with notes of vanilla, cherries ye good structure of minerality, medium body and long finish.

Striking garnet colour. Tasted on opening and was a bit worried as first smell was funky and tasted too mineral and thin. Filtered and decanted for 3 hours before serving with a sausage/cheese appetizer. Opened up remarkably. Aroma improved substantially to good fruit. Tasting also much better with cherries and vanilla coming out with minerality taking a supporting role.

Animal notes on opening, but disappeared quickly, few residual tannins (drink now...), and lovely dark fruits and herb nose. Colour tending towards rusty, and Nerthe is not a full-bodied CDP, so its starting to thin out.Overall a lovely bottle.

a bottle direct from chateau in 2008. Really excellent. everything was in balance. classic cndp. fruit was still going well, sweet and earthy tones. Finish was long and smooth.

Very good but not great Chateauneuf. Pop 'n pour. Opened with an offputting, very funky nose that blew off after half an hour. Archetypical cherry/grilled meat/provencal herb-mixture. Medium bodied and a-point. Drink now. 16,5/20

Opened, filtered and decanted about 2 hours before drinking. Fantastic body and taste - much better than when tasted at Chateau, probably as it opened up. Vanilla and berry notes well balanced with remaining tannins. Still ageing well. Needed more fil

Yowza! This stuff has been getting better with age and was the last of 6 I have been drinking starting in 2001. THis displayed all the classic CDP and La Nerthe characteristics that make the style and the vintner famous. I wish I had more left!

Purchased my mistake with a bunch of 1998s. The color is orangish-red, but turns a little watery at the rim. Great Rhone nose of meat, pepper, and forest mushroom. Medium weight in the mouth with some fruit. Medium length finish that is a little hot. Overall, a very nice Chateauneuf. Would be great with food.

A raisin bomb at this point in its life, raisin nose a taste blew off a bit after 30mins but still clearly past it’s prime.

Despite the age of this bottle, it had matured well and was very enjoyable - flavors smooth and mellow.

Very dissapointing. Over the hill, thin and insipid. Would have thought it would have aged better. Barely drinkable.

Vegetal nose.
A soft feel in the mouth, fruity and balanced tannins and acidity.
