Fié Gris is a parent of Sauvignon Blanc, but this wine has none of that varietal's signature gooseberry characteristics, say nothing of grapefruit. Instead, it has spring meadow aromas of wildflowers and clover, clean grassy flavors marked by a subtly limey minerality, and an acidity that's more soft than sharp, with a finish reminiscent of lemon oil more than fresh lemon. Its body is round like a southern Italian white like Greco di Tufo, and it's very refreshing.

Had a strange funk to the nose, which a friend described as wheatgrass, though I don't know what that smells like. In any case, not my thing at all. Much better on the palate, but still not for me.

eRobert Parker Offline - Loire (Backstreet Wine Salon, Phoenix): Citrus and flint on the nose. Pears, caramel, gun powder and flowers. Fresh tropical fruit finish with good acidity. Nice richness with some depth. Showed much better tonight than at the Quail tasting a few months ago. 12% alcohol.
