This is effectively Ponsot's CStD VV but with the vineyard owner's label instead (50% of the crop is so-labelled). It used to be a below the radar bargain (before they added Ponsot's name in small print to the label), but now pricing is in the same territory.
To say this was a huge surprise would be an understatement. None of my guests called this as an '11 given its dark red fruit nose and a brambly, rich palate. Probably the best '11 I've had so far, eclipsing a DRC GE from earlier this year. The vines were 100yo in 2005 hence the concentration of fruit. I find this bottling from Ponsot far more consistent than his CdlR which seems to show enormous bottle variation.

Not at all what I was expecting. This is a bruiser of a Burgundy and remarkably fine for a less than lauded vintage. Black and blue fruited for the first couple of hours, this only begins to show red fruits after considerable air. A spherical and voluptuous palate. Very ripe but also showing the first signs of lovely complexity and minerailty. Served blind, I would never have guessed 2011. This will keep and improve for decades.

Pseudo Ponsot. Lush and open and full of ripe fruit. Good.
