This 375ml bottle had many of the characteristics of a what had been really good Kabinett (which is SOP for Zilliken) but was past its prime and getting rather tired.

Bright and sassy but with a creamy textural underbase, lovely balance of acidity and sweetness. Limesicle laced with slate and flint, with time some peach flower topnotes. Long, precise finish. A-

Pretty golden color. On the nose there is petrol, burnt match stix but no sulfur & some mixed nuts. Some pineapple juice & a flutter of butter. On the palate it was spot on like biting in2 the most perfecty ripe golden delicious apple & a hint of lime. Nice sweetness & a lil acid on the finish. This really kicks new world rieslings @ this price point.

I had opened a bottle of the 2004 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Kabinett a few nights earlier, and had a small glass each evening. On day 4 this is still going strong. Incredible piercing acidity, yet without seeming sharp. Peach and nectarine fruit, a base of slate, wildflowers and a hint of mint. How can a wine have bright acidity, yet still feel creamy? I liked the 2005 of this, but this rocks

A good producer but a flawed bottle.

Sweet lime and peach, zippy acidity yet with a broad base, nice minerally finish. Lovely and long, better than the '05 for my tastes. A-/B+
