Faustino’s Rioja Reserva V 2006 imparts little fruit. Expect notes of leather, sun-baked roof tile, grilled meat and tomato paste. Medium-bodied, this old-school Tempranillo offers moderate acidity and low-to-moderate, but fine tannins. The profile of the nose echoes that of the palate, and it paired reasonably well with grilled steak fajitas. 12.5% ABV

Had with a nice rib eye steak. Fairly run of the mill Rioja. Nothing special. Been in my cellar for the last 3 years or so. Not bad but not a special occasion wine.

Dark ruby color with well developed legs. Aroma of moist prunes covering a hint of pine and fresh saw dust. Medium-full bodied and strong. The tannin parched my mouth even before I swallowed the wine but it faded rather quicky. Dry finish. Very pleasant. This has held up very well for a 2006. Ready to consume now, but drink over the next year or two.

Clear, med, garnet, bright, legs long, quick, some deposit. Nose: clean, med intensity, red fruits: dried cherry, plum, animal tone, some smoke, fully developed. Palate: dry, acidity med+, alcohol med, tannin med, body med, intensity med+, same aromas like in the nose, overripe plum, a hint of oak, finish med+. Good, drink now, is not suitable for aging; fell down in several hours. A dense wine with ready silky tannin and pleasant mouthcoating finish.

Rioja winery with DOC status, Reserve level; blend of 92% Tempranillo and 8% Mazuelo, matured for 16 months in Amer. oak, plus some months in bottles. Tasting: dark ruby red color, concentrated and rich, black, ripe and smoked fruits, oak and vanilla, touch of dark chocolate or tobacco; needs decanting and better on next day, good after taste; full bodied. Classic Tempranillo with lovely flavors, plus for stylish label and traditional 'Rioja' package, no disappointment! Price is 18 euro.

Typical V, light, summer fruity and easy to drink with friends at dinner. Shortish finish and probably past its best, but not off. Drink now, it wont keep

Surprisingly dark and quite opaque cherry red color for a Rioja. The age is showing as slightly maroon hue, especially towards the rim. The nose is rustic and somewhat sweet with aromas of ripe dark cherry, sunny dark fruit, some manure, a little bit of vanilla oak and a hint of leather with an underlying streak of bright raspberry. On the palate the wine is quite dry, medium-bodied and surprisingly tightly-knit with bright acid freshness and quite savory flavors of dark forest berries, leather, some vanilla, a little peppery spice, hints of ripe plums and a touch of cedary oak. The wine feels moderately tannic. The finish is long and a bit sweeter than the midpalate with flavors of dark plums, sweet strawberry-driven red fruit, light oak spice, a little bit of cherry jam and a touch of oaky vanilla and dill.
A surprisingly serious and structured Rioja Reserva. Pretty traditionalist in its style with those telltale leathery and vanilla oak aromatics, but nice emphasis on structure and savory fruit characteristics over those jammy, sweet and vanilla-driven flavors that dominate most of the modern Rioja reds. The wine feels quite tightly wound now with its stern structure and I can imagine the wine would benefit from a few years of aging. Judging by its serious character, it can probably be kept for 10 years more in a cellar. I like this quite much, this is good value at 16,99€.

Beyond it's best me thinks. Slightly oxidated. For 150th anniversary they could have done better. Drink tempra younger....is the answer.

Very old school, though I think it might be a little TOO oxidative. Fair amount of VA, too.
