  • Sicily-Tasting, Flight 3, Wine 1: This wine was made from Nerello Mascalese (Negrello) bush vines. It was medium to dark garnet in colour and offered cooked dark fruits, herbs and liquorice on the nose and palate, with medium to medium-plus acidity, well-integrated, fine, medium-plus tannin and very good length. The medium- to full-bodied, well-structured wine drank well and should continue to drink well for another three to five years. This 2001 was holding up better than the 2003 and 2004 we drank next to it. An interesting lineup that showcased surprisingly marked vintage variations in the Etna Rosso Cru DOC.
