  • First of a highly dubious case of 11 bought at auction. Good level but cork showing mould under the capsule; popping revealed the stopper to be soaked through and showing significant age. Surely headed for the sink as expected? But no. Nose reveals typical white rhone qualities of stone fruits, white flowers and resin with a distinct woody note thrown in. Certainly fully mature but surprisingly youthful; good mouth feel, a certain richness but fully dry. Oak is noticeable but fully integrated and as for the notorious oxidation, not really. Revelatory no, but certainly enjoyable enough for a wine that many might regard as superannuated.
