A private dinner (Auriol): Brought by a friend, opened too late, not decanted, served at the end of the meal (with cheese, after dessert) - feel like we didn't give this the showing it deserved. Shame.

As part of a 5 bottle blind taste test party @ John & Karine's with the family this was my #2 wine of the night. To the eye the wine looks garnet in color. The legs are medium with no sediment in the bottle. To the nose & taste vanilla, cherry and forest floor came though. The body was medium with a medium finish. Would highly recommend this wine.

The fruit smells dark with a little gum leaf giving it a slight green feeling coming from the Carménère which can be dividing but I don’t mind it. Definitely less gum leaf on the palate with more emphasis on the blackberries, cherries and fresh figs. Some dried herbs and a little spice too. Seemed to get fuller after being opened a couple of days. Lovely wine.

Better with food. A little closed, but there's some good stuff in there. Not sure if more time is needed or if this is just the way it will be. I would feel better about it at a lower price.

SOBEWFF '15 Domaines Barons de Rothschild. Dark color with garnet on the edges. Dry earth, unsmoked tobacco, spices and leather really relegate the fruit on this one (too Carmenerish). Starchy tannins, low acidity, juicy red fruit, nice new oak gives a touch of elegance as this wine's softness does a lot to redeem it.

This wine didn't disappoint on any level! You barely need to move the glass towards your nose before the aromas hit. If a smell can be rich this was it; loaded with cherries (fresh off the tree and slowly baked in a pie) with a heady concoction of warming spices and a further layer of richness. The quality and decadence of this continued to shine through the soft, rich, melted-butter-like palate ("melted-butter-like" here refers to how it sat in the mouth and coated the tongue as opposed to the actual flavor) ... additional raspberry jam smoothness and further toasty spice to round it all off. The finish leaves you ravenous for more to go with a hefty piece of medium-rare steak, mashed potatoes and a glass that never runs out!
I got lucky with this spicy one. The dark fruit was rich and inviting; the nose spoke of black berries and red fruit. The palate delivered everything that the nose and visuals led me to believe. The finish was long and lingering, like my memories. If you like Cabs, this one will satisfy you greatly.

A great fruit forward wine, beautiful deep garnet to purple color, medium acid, with subtle tannin. I will be looking for another bottle to purchase.

Nice, Slightly tart flavors with some earthy tones. Medium body. Went well with a beef stew type dish.

No notes taken but I remember this being intense and complex with perfect balance. It creeps up on you and just gets better and better.

I feel like Lafite Rothschild with good acidity and long finish after 1 hour decanting.

Chocolate, dark and juicy round fruit, bell pepper. A bit dull, but crowd-pleasing.
