Very intense nose which develops all the aromatic richness of Napa, lavender, jammy fruit, spices and cocoa.
On the palate, we are in the hills of Napa, it is extremely rich and intense on this 2ha plot which culminates at an altitude of 100m. We are on a demonstrative and structured wine, where the jam/lavender/spices/cocoa quartet articulates well around a perfect balance, without any heaviness. And yet, the 15.6% alcohol could quickly tire the palate... Warm finish, all in richness on vanilla and cocoa on a good length.
It's excellent, but not the style I prefer in California.

Big hedonistic nose with perfuming and jammy black and dark red cherry, rich spice, currant, dark chocolate and lavender. Highly structured and full body with deep character, attractive acidity and broad but balanced velvety tannins. Never ending finish.
Stylistic not something I would normally elect but I have to say this is quite impressive, balanced, multi dimensional and highly enjoyable. I think this will mellow more with time but this is sweet seductive elegant and powerful.
For the style, fantastic and top class

Decanted two hours. Pure cassis and licorice with velvety tannins, light minerality, long seamless finish. Drinking well but no hurry. Quite a nice effort for the vintage.

Double decanted for 2 hrs, deep ruby with no sign of aging, black raspberries & black cherries with a touch of spice, med. tannins long finish; outstanding, 1st Tychson & impressed, drink or hold (I suspect that these will last for several more yrs)

Double-Decanted two hours before dinner. This felt mildly flawed with brett and some green pepper notes but at times the deliciousness came through and perhaps could have been a 96.

Great great great wine. It's blackberry and raspberry and woodsy and spice and very balanced and not over the top. Too young. I prefer these with a bit more age so that it can mellow even a bit more, but it's still quite nice now.

Decanted for 1 hour, drank over 2 hours. Still needed much more air. A big forward wine, but elegant with spice, dark coffee, cocoa, spice and deep red and black fruit. This had heft but was silky on the palate with great balance and a long smooth finish. It will be interesting to try again in a few years.

Spice, black cherry liqueur and incense aromas open to a silky, jammy, powerful sweet, tannic, wine with a jammy black cherry finish. There is a touch of heat in the finish.

Started slow for me but ended up wine of the night. Nice nose of fruit including some earthy notes and an interesting whiff of old English tobacco smoke. Filled the palate with cassis, plum, cocoa and some herbs. Very nice.

Very nice. Took just about 15 minutes to open up after a pop and pour, and just continued to get better for the hour after that it was consumed. Big and racy glycerine-laced nose with licorice and red and dark fruits. The palate had a nice sweet burst of red and dark fruits up front that then layered nicely over dusty cocoa and mushroom flavors. New world up front, then old world on the mid-palate, then a nice balance of both on the finish. Nice wine.

Surprisingly light in color, 88;81. Decanted 2 hours and drunk over a 2 hour period. Does not look as dense as expected. Nose is big and heady, sweet black currant, exotic, spicy. Mouthfeel is quite soft. Good balance, maybe a bit soft, not at all as powerful and masculine as we would have expected. Delicious, Lynn almost felt it could have been a bit too delicious. Spicy, exotic, brown sugar, black currant, asphalt, burning embers. Long very pleasant aftertaste.

Deep red in color with aromas of candied fruit, spice and vanilla. Flavors of red fruits, slightly sweet. Nice harmony between acid, fruit, alcohol and tanin.

(Cult California Cabernet tasting @ Martin Weiner’s) The 2004 Colgin Tychson is an amazing wine that I felt was just barely edged out by the 1993 Bryant. In 5 years, the Tychson would be a better wine given its depth. The Tychson is certainly a more masculine wine than the Herb Lamb tasted next to it. Dark purple color with a bouquet of sweet, dark fruit and lavender. This is a big boy that will only get better with age. Flavors of dark fruit, lavender and boysenberry syrup. Sweet tannins with excellent balance. Drinking well now, but should be at its best in 5 years and beyond. Fantastic stuff!

At first I got some rose pedals on the nose, very floral with some bacon fat. Later this turned into an almost fishy scent. Sweet fruit on the attack with great balance. This wine needs loads more time.

Delicious bottle and just kept opening up with every sip...recommend decanting for a couple of hours and can easily rest for another 5-10 years.
